I don't think it's fair to say you wouldn't date a smoker because of the fear you'd lose them to cancer. That's like saying I'd never date a man with a valid driver's license because he might get into a car accident.

I don't mind if she smokes buds (as long as she doesn't bogart); but, cigarettes are nasty.

are you using your first tread for a campaign against women who smoke?
JAN_is: As an ex smoker I would find it a little difficult to have a serious relationship with a smoker, but I wouldn´t say no just because of it. I just don´t want to start smoking again, and it is a constant battle for ex smokers.
However, I really do think that smokers look older, I can usually tell a smoker when I see a pic, and as others have said, they may encounter health problems later in life, not all, but some.
Having said all that, in the past, I never met a man who minded me smoking or complained about it.

I am a social smoker but can go without them particularly if the date/man I am seeing is a none smoker...but yes generally men are turned off by smoking I think...

i had a brief relationship with a smoker a few months ago and found it difficult as i don't smoke, but i think if there had been more 'chemistry' it may not have been such a negative thing for me!

60schic: my mouth never smells of smoke i always have a wrigleys handy to take away the smell of smoke..... and my mouth is always fresh.
not with me darling, the first woman that i shared home with, tried that. and even after telling me she stopped smoking she would hide away and go do it then use that sort of meathod that i wasn't soposed to detect but i can always detect cigarette scent anywhere. i couldn't kiss her cause i had to stop my breath each time.

I want date a non-smoker...i don't want to listen to him run on about how smoking is not good for you.We know it is bad,but so are other things...if smoking is all some one does bad...i am ok with it
I've dated some smokers in the past and I'm a non-smoker, it didn't bother me particularly as long as they didn't over do it. But obviously if i'm looking for a long-term relationship I suppose i'd prefer a non-smoker but i wouldn't keep that high on my priority list.

Hi 60sChic & welcome to the site..
As for smoking, I'm not keen on it, but would never stop anyone as I know it can be both enjoyable and also makes some relax...
However I would encourage them to consider either cutting down or stopping if possible as my granny used to smoke, but she stopped and was doing fine, (she still had her whisky ), but then she met a smoker who made her happy and they even married, but she did start smoking again and unfortunately became ill not long after and passed away before she reached 60.
While smoking may not have been the only factor, I firmly believe it certainly made a major impact and one wonders if she had not started again would she still be here as my granddad did stop and he's still going strong at 82.. I miss my gran dearly though..
