After reading what paws had to say on his "Hello, I'm not new here" thread....I thought that this was a fair question to ask.

Is CS a private club?
True anyone can join...but I have noticed that many people who offer input and/or attempt to be part of a thread are simply ignored.

Maybe this is my imagination...maybe these people had nothing of value to say....then again...is CS an exclusive private club???

Just curious....

be welcome.

it might be that a few of us are a little gunshy to newbies, from some experiences from before.

it might be that we have been a bit...occupied, as well.

i can think of three new people that just joined in the last week or so that have had MANY responses...

If I don't have anything to -add-, I won't comment on a post. That doesn't mean it's been ignored, or I don't care for the one posting it. It simply means I'm not going to say "yeah", "true", "I agree", or spam emoticons to agree like 500 of the thumbs up.

I did not so much refer to a new thread by someone.....

More so that I have observed conversations that are between many of the same people scoot right on by someone who does not seem yet be in the "club"

Personally, I can ramble on without regard to if somebody is paying attention and/or responding....

I have only been aroudn a short while.....and feel like I have started a few nice friendships.....but it did strike me that maybe paws hit a soft spot.

Just wanted to open the dialogue

takes a while to get to know you, is the main thing.

for some of us...with the men, anyway, we are a bit more careful, as there have been a few that tried to dupe us.

give it time.

I've been a forum member since the beginning.

Usually, folks reply to those who they disagree with or those who they are interested in.

They welcome newbies to be polite or to see if the new person might be interested in them.

It's an egocentric world here.

Egocentricity: is what it is...and not a surprise to be a driving force in this or any other linguistic interaction between people who are at or beyond the age of consent. It is supposed to be as such. However, this has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I think maybe my point has been lost in the defense of the protocal and trends........

I am not speaking about someone starting a new thread.....because as has been clearly pointed out....a thread can die or be killed off for a number of fair and valid reasons.....

more specific I have noticed on-going dialogue about a topicor which started within a topic....which converts to "private" dialogue between folks.

A fictitious example.:

P-1, P-2, P-3: part of the "club" p-4 Not part of the "club"

P-1: Hey does anyone have a good joke
P-2: okay here is one....
dah dah dah dah
P-4: (non-club member)...hey that was a good one...I heard this one that is kinda the same...wanna hear it?
P-3: hey sally that is funny but your talkin' about last saturday.
P-1 well you were clearly not listening on saturday...cuz' that was not what jerome was sayin'
P-2: yeah...so?
P-4: did you guys want to hear my joke?
P-1: You know Jerome, you and Sally are both being rude!
P-2: whatever! So here Now you guys listen. This is my new joke....
P-3: no wait....listen to this first
P-4: So I guess nobody wants to hear my joke? It really is pretty funny
P-2: Just like you did the other day, your tryin' to get all the attention
P-1: What is up with you two? I can't believe your still talkin' about this
P-3: well I know what ya'll are talkin' about!
p-4: guess nobody want to hear my joke or even say hello...oh well...guess I will leave now....
p-2: you only think you know about what is whatever whatever
p-4: bye everyone....can I come back another time?
p-1: blah blah
p-3: blah blah
p-2: blah blah

I hope you get the picture now.

Now I could be way off base....if I am I apologize and welcome somebody telling me that I am off base.....

Further, I have only been around here for a couple of weeks...and maybe I am out of line for sticking my nose in where maybe it is not welcome........But in my always humble opinion, I seem to have noticed that this is often times, how P-4 above was treated is not uncommon......

for whatever it is worth.....
here I offer you my humble opinions and observations.

I'm inclined to agree with you, it does appear to be that way. It is always difficult to break into a social circle but I was under the impression this was a dating site. Am now of the opinion that it is more of a talking shop. Although I have had a few replies the impression one gets is that CS stands for Closed Shop, not Connecting Singles. That will open the debate up, or not as people will choose to ignore it. rolling on the floor laughing

dont know if i am reading this right or not but it never (with me anyways) means to be "private" if you have something to add then by all means say what it is you are goin say

yes some threads do endup in "Private" conservation but unless people let it trun that way then thats not what its meant to be
