ok, that's cool, muffin

I almost always use my "signature" emoticon, which is the waving little dude..otherwise, nahhh..I don't use them very often. It's too much fun having people (deliberately or otherwise) misconstruing my words and putting their own spin on my intent behind them!

However, I don't need to "watch the use of" them, because I know full well what I mean when I do use them. If someone takes my intent incorrectly, that's their problem. Can't please all the people all the time, yanno.

People will infer what they will, regardless. If you'll notice, I never say anything with regard to "how" a person "sounds" in a post, because...DUH? This is the typewritten word! Hate is a perfectly acceptable word in the English language. A person has the right to "hate," if he or she so desires.

lol, she doesn't know me or mine, either.

i did, however, agree with what you had to say...and mentioned that my mother worked hard to make certain that we enunciated properly.

some accents don't bother me, some do. and it's not something i get angry about...it's just personal choice.

even in the south, it's perfectly possible to surround myself with people that take the time to educate themselves.

"A lick southern to you?" What's that mean?

As it is, my lineage on my mother's side goes back to Daniel Boone (and yes, we've done the history and confirmed this) so, on her side, I'm about as "Southern" as they come. Our family graves in East Tennessee date back to the 1400s.

Not especially proud of it, mainly because of the way people sound. I mean, is it remotely possible, do you think, for Southerners to speak without sounding so freaking ignorant?

Case in point: (and they do this all the time, too, it seems). Some 10 or more years ago a Navy jet crashed a few miles from the airport, in the vicinity in which I now live, in fact.

What does the media do? They pick the most ignorant, uneducated-sounding yahoo to describe the incident:

"Law!!! I looked up'n at th' skah, and I seen a huge FARball! I done plumb was shocked! I says to my wife, Ethel, "Ethel," I says, did you see that FAR??? Ethel says, "Well, gee, you big peckerwood, of course'n I seen the FAR. The dad-burn plane blowed up right in front of us!"

Then they distribute this jibberish all over the world, making people think, "Oh, my GOD. They really DO talk like that in the South!"

Hell, look at all the Southern comedians nowadays who are making a'killin' off'n making fun of Suth'in people and how they talk so funny. Hey, there's a thought: maybe you could get in on it!

wave wink
