Myself and my BF are thinking of doing a tour of Ireland, If possible we would like to drive along coastal routes the whole way,
We would start off from home in Dublin heading south wards into wicklow, wexford, waterford and keep on following the coast around up into the west up tp donegal across to belfast and then to dublin finally,
Do you think it would be fun?
and has anybody ever done a tour of Ireland, its not that big of an Island after alldunno

Sounds like fun, i'd love to do something like that. Have you seen that show on bbc called Coast, they basically cover the entire coasts of the uk and ireland. Its really interesting, some amazing ares. I'd love to see the cliffs of Moher. Anyway you should do it, I'm sure you would meet alot of interesting people too.

Yes I saw that a few times before , good programme,
i dont think it would be possible to drive the whole coast of Ireland, i think it would be better to do a circuit of Ireland only driving in all the coastal counties, its something I would like to do, I don`t know whydunno

Go for it - sounds like a great plan but it might take more time than you think.
We did a biker tour a few years back started in Galway and did Ballybunion, Dingle, Kerry down to Valentia with lots of stops inbetween. By the time we got to Gorey it had taken a week - so we cheated and went cross country to Letterfrack and then did the coast again as far as Letterkenny around Donegal.
It's an amazing country - there's so much of it I still want to see.
How long are you thinking it will take?

I dont know how long it could take, If it took a week I wouldnt mind, ideally we should be doing it in a camper van so we dont end up paying for hotels and B&Bs but we will have to, I dont fancy sleeping in the back of a smelly transit, its not the best time of year to be doing this either, its nearly november and its freezing cold dunno

what about just doing a bit of it? I think if you tried to do the whole lot in a week you'll end up just driving and miss out - I'd have been looking at more like a fortnight to 3 weeks.
Got to say we did b and b and a couple of times hostels and it was still a pretty expensive trip - plus there's petrol. Cost a lot more than a week in the sun
But good luck with it - there is a bed hop scheme I heard of, can't remember the site, basically you stay with people in their homes is it "couch surfing" ? maybe google it ...

Thats the whole point, It would be a driving holiday, and I wont be driving, I`ll be the 1 admiring the pretty scenery and that idiot will be concentrating on the road, I think we could do it in 3 days comfortably , I worked with a guy from barcelona who drove home to catalonia, It took him 16 hours and that was non stop, On the way back to Ireland he drove as far as france and stayed overnight in a B&B, then got the ferry to rosslare, He said it was far better to take a breakdunno

Ireland is an island of 84,288 sq km (32,544 square miles). Its greatest length is; 485 km (302 miles), its greatest width is 304 km ( 189 miles), and its coastline extends for over 5,631 km (3,500 miles). The highest mountain is Carrantuohill (1,040 metres/3'414 feet), near Killarney In County Kerry. The longest river is the Shannon (370 km/230 miles, including estuary) which opens at the sea in county Limerick. The largest lake is Lough Neagh (396 ssq km/153 ss.quare miles) in the north which boarders counties Armagh, Down, Antrim, Derry and Tyrone. The country is divided into the four historic provinces of Ulster (9 counties) in the north; Munster (6 counties) in the south; Leinster (12 counties) in the east; and Connacht (5 counties) in the west. The population of the 32 counties of Ireland is approximately 5 million.

Among Ireland's natural advantages is 3,500 miles of coastline, so indented that you are never more than 70 miles from the sea.

Never realised how small Ireland actually is in numbers. ireland

Alberta is the fourth largest of the 10 provinces in Canada covering an area of, 661,000 square kilometres (255,000 square miles), roughly twice the size of Japan and about equal to the state of Texas. wow
