I was evaluating at that time if I should wake up my folks and get them out of the house , but as my father has a week heart, my mother cant be waken up without a gunshot next to her ear and my son would probably kick me in his sleep... I made a decision to go back to bed and enjoy the rocking ....
The USGS estimates that several million earthquakes occur in the world each year. Many go undetected because they hit remote areas or have very small magnitudes. The NEIC now locates about 50 earthquakes each day, or about 20,000 a year.
As more and more seismographs are installed in the world, more earthquakes can be and have been located. However, the number of large earthquakes (magnitude 6.0 and greater) has stayed relatively constant.

All i know is, I don't remember seeing or hearing about so many of them in populated areas as frequently as I have this year.

JSuburbia: Is it me, or does there seem to be an unusual amount of seismic activity this year around the world?
Tremors are quite normal here as my city rests right at the foot of an active volcano. Although it has been getting worse and worse according to my gramps.
