Yes, the 3 'parties' have their traditional colours. Blue for Conservative, yellow for Liberal Democrats and red for the labour party.

Well David is wearing blue because that is the Conservative party's colour as I said above, and he wears yellow in support of the Liberal Democrat party led by Nick Clegg who are in co-government with the Conservative. There has always been big rivalry between the Conservative party (blue) and Labour Party (red), which explains why he won't wear a red tie. These colours aren't compulsory but there is a bit of an unwritten rule that they would not have a plain colour tie in the opposing party's traditional colour.
