In response to: Why is there a need for women to change there above when they marry surely this is an antiquated system and should be changed.

I took on my late husbands last name cause I was proud to carry it.I still use it.I've only used my maiden name when I was looking up family history.

also, since the mid 90's, the childs surname can be either that of the mother or the father or a combination of the two - double barreled.

just for church records maybe. dunno

my ex wife always used her own name in all her documents including deeds of the house, childrens birth certs, bank accounts, PPSN number, tax purposes etc.

it is the name she was born with and it belonged to her. neither the state nor i had any right to have her change it and neither was she under any obligation to do so.

Hear in the U.S. you do not have to change your name. In professional situations some women use her maiden name and add their married name. Example: Catherine Porter Thomas

Hillary Rodham Clinton

If you divorce and want to change back to you maiden name, this is a possibile. You also can change your full name, if you do not like it to another one but have to keep the same social security number in each situation.

My own personal thought is to add your married name to you maiden name if it sounds right or not to lengthey. I would think it an insult to the husband not to use his name. In business use your own name any way you can or omit your husband's ,but only when connecting to bussiness.handshake wave

Records are there and in hindsight she done the right procedure
It is not easy and can be very hard to change all it all back to the above with regards certs etc....wave

yes, but also her birth surname is her true identity. being married to me did not change the woman from the wonderful lady she always was.

we talked about changing her surname before our marriage and we were in agreement that she would still be her own person and not an extension of me and therefore it was only right that she kept her own name.

True, but their children normally adopt the fsthers surname first, then the mothers. Spanish people have two surnames for those who don´t know.

There is no need, Lostinspace.

People do it only if they want to. But many men feel less than a man if their future spouse mentions that she is going to keep her own surname.
