Ross30: we're Irish and sure as long as ye don't get caught its alright to committ welfare fraud...lol

just joking, I don't agree with jailing people for welfare fraud accept if the person been caught has a stackload of pervious criminal convictions as our prisons are overcrowded. Better to hit people by stopping their dole payments if there committing welfare fraud or throw them out on the streets in very extreme cases of welfare fraud.

I know a guy who claimed job seekers allowance when he had a job

working in a Hotel Kitchen, I dont know how he thought he would

get away with it, but he went to court and was given 18 months

in jail, he has previous convictions but not for welfare fraud

GalwayGuy35: no on both counts. i wont give my money to an english queen at the expense of irish jobs

That is a very outdated opinion .......... you/we are taking the Queens shilling indirectly and giving it back regardless to how we feel about it. If we all thought as you do, we would still be living on potatoes ireland

I've heard of cases where people have defrauded their employer out of €50k and have gotten away with a suspended sentence, its very rare for welfare fraudsters to be jailed in this country but regarding that example that you just stated your man probably deserved to go to jail as he has previous convictions.

8 years ago my sister used to post me over Contact Lenses as I priced them over here and they were too expensive. Low and behold when I eventaually received my first package, they were made in Waterford.

6 years ago I went to Istanbul to get laser eye surgery, it cost me 350 euro after care and all. This would have costed me over 3000 euro over here, back then...

So do you think I have no principles, am I not dedicated enough to my country???...

Ahem, me thinks I love a bargain hehe and as they say, it is always to price around dancing

Fair play to you. I agree with you in theory but we are in a recession so beggars can't be choosers. In my opinion, the irish government or the retail trade should be doing more to keep down prices and make things more competitive. Prices are coming down in some places but others charge what they like. A lot of people can't afford to buy irish these days. Money is tight so i don't think anyone can begrudge another person for going up north if they can save a few quid. Some might call it putting money in the Queen's purse but if a person can save money then its better in their pocket than that of the government and the irish retailers. At the end of the day, times are hard and people have to look out for themselves.

We all have little ways (sometimes a wee bit illegal) to save money...

However I do not agree with someone claiming 2 benefits or someone working and claiming benefit...

Just thought I would state that...
