GalwayGuy35: i dont know you so so i dont know anything about you or your principles. im speaking from my own point of view in supporting Irish jobs as i would hope others would do the same for me

I have a wee girl and times are tough... Santa is just around the corner and I will go up North to ensure the biggest smile is on her face Christmas morning...

I do not think it is the people hardest hit in this recession that is holding the country back,, that comes from higher up...

I would head up about 3 times a year.

There is a program on TV3 this week some evening exposing the cost difference, might be worth a peek!!!!

What day is it on, costs of doing buisiness are also a lot higher in the south ie minimum wage, commercial and local authority rents, red tape, insurance costs, utilities etc.

anniebaby: well i dont agree or disagree wit wot others do
i fend for my self, but then mayb i am a little touchy on the subject of social welfare as the wont allow me rent allowance so i live on lone parent and pay all my bills out of that including rent with no help from my ex either.

i was thinking more along the lines that we all say stuff on different sites that might come back to haunt us

yet the suggestion or topic was ''social welfare'' with the mention of ''heads up'' suggests you were telling others! that said yes putting personnel information up online can get people in trouble!!

Ross30: we're Irish and sure as long as ye don't get caught its alright to committ welfare fraud...lol

just joking, I don't agree with jailing people for welfare fraud accept if the person been caught has a stackload of pervious criminal convictions as our prisons are overcrowded. Better to hit people by stopping their dole payments if there committing welfare fraud or throw them out on the streets in very extreme cases of welfare fraud.
thumbs up

MSN74: Whatever needs to be done to catch social welfare cheats is acceptable (bar a camera in the bedroom)...

However I think all this should have been done in the height of the Celtic Tiger and not now when incomes are at their lowest...

Yes I think most of us cheat the system in some way, I know I will be heading up North this week to save money on Christmas presents... But sure didnt we learn from the best,,,, Our Government!!!!

absolutely- I don't agree with welfare fraud on any level- it is fraud, regardless, and the idea that it is acceptable and 'I am entitled' makes them just as culpable as the bankers etc ( though,in fairness, not quite as rich!!)
what is a disgrace, however, is that the welfare rates are being cut now, meaning that all those people who have been working for years, sometimes at minimum wage, because they have a proper work ethic, are the ones who are getting the rate cut, along with the ones who have been sitting at home, fully able to work, but who have been living the same lifestyle, because( for that exact reason) they are too bone lazy to work. ( for the record, I am not, thankfully one of those who are fully dependent on welfare, so it's not a 'poor me' statement)

For those that were on welfare in the 'good years' for truly legitimate reasons, please do not think I am including you in the 'bone idle' group.

Yes but sadly the reform starts now it has to be driven down, we must forget the politics and move forward, we need to focus on making Ireland viable we need to drive down cost and hopefully eventually be able to build a future better economy! (although many are suffering and hurting, many who contributed to society and losing in return)

VAT rate is being put up on January 1st so it will be more

expensive, when you take the exchange rate into account even more

but I think it will still be slightly cheaper, probably not

worth a journey up in a car on fuel
