Good motto. Do you find it in keeping with your country's policies Ali? I sometimes wonder if they are somewhat outdated as ours has been in place for centuries.

bestbefore: I was watching a film over Christmas and the expression "in God we trust" was referred to. This being the American National motto and spoken in the National Anthem,I was wondering how many other countries have motto's,and what they actually mean to you as a native of said country.
The British Royal coat of arms bears the words "Dieu et mon Droit" which translates as "God and my Right" and the Order of the Garter "Honi soit qui mal y pense" translated as "Evil to him who evil thinks".
In this day and age do you think these are appropriate as they all have religious connotations.
I am interested in knowing about other country's too!
i think in a few years time.....britain..wil have no mottoe,s.the true brit...wil be exstint...the steady influx...of the dregs...of other nations...into this country...will see to that.

The third line of the poem say that "freedom comes from the sacred dead Greeks bones" referring to the heroic struggle for freedom, from the Ottoman Turks.
chris27292729: The national anthem of Greece comes from the first verses of a poem written by D. Solomos called " Hymn to Liberty".

I think that's true of a lot of countries these days. I do feel that the past is just that, and we now live in a very different society from the dark ages,so need to adjust to a more modern age.
Our country is steeped in history some to be proud of,some not.

What is a true Brit?
The history of Britain is so complex its hard to work out the migration of peoples. We are mongrels and by no means pure bred! The Brits have hybrid vigour and a vast pool of evolving influences and culture. Why stop now?
Its time we appreciated what is good about the diversity of Britain instead of succumbing to yet another round of anti-this-person and anti-that person.
The immigration perception is no different now than other times when Britain invited other peoples to do the crap work and then bad mouthed them for it.
The perception of Muslim people and the fear outward appearances instils is no different from the reaction an Irish accent evoked during the troubles.
This is not solely directed at you, Trueheart. I just really wish folk would see beyond media propaganda.

jac379: This is a damned good thread, BB.
Thanks Jac,thought it might get people thinking about theirs and other people's roots. As you say a united front is what we should be aiming for in these turbulent times.
Bringing people together to think about others is always a step forward.
