I went on an economy drive last year after having a close look at what I was spending (funny how being skint concentrates the mind)
Anyway, closed my bank account in Jersey and saved myself £25 a month in charges, changed my internet provider and save about €30 a month, although the speed is crap, stopped buying an English Sunday paper and saved about €150.00 a year..........
It's amazing how much you can cut down on without doing without. I read the newspapers online and only buy one on a Saturday - well, can't beat leisurely breakfast with the paper on a weekend!
Godsgift: Well, so far I am collecting dead wood from the local woodland to use as kindling rather than paying between €2.50 and €4.00 per bag!
I use my bicycle or walk to the shops and have stopped buying premium brands. Where possible I shop at Lidel or Aldi including their own brand of washing powder! I live alone and their beef, lamb, chicken or turkey ready meals are just fine!
I buy cheap concentrated kitchen and bathroom cleaner and mix them with water in old spray bottles.
I buy toiletries.....toothpaste, deoderant, hand soap, shaving foam etc from the €2 shop.
I like Gold Blend coffee so I shop around and refuse to pay more than €2.50 per 100 grammes. If I see a good deal, I buy loads of it. There's 4 jars in my cupboard. Is anybody else on an ecconomy drive and do you have any tips?
Get an Electrician in to bypass your meter and you can run an electric heater off it for free so no need for Heating Oil...I know somebody who is doing this...illegal of course
LadyBlackAdder: And when you get caught you can live at the governments expense in a nice big house for several years; food, heat, clothes and accommodation taken care of. What a great idea!
The only way they have of knowing you doctored the meter is by watching your usage every month...If it falls sharply then they will investigate because this gives them reason to believe your stealing electricity...Just buy a powerful electric heater and run it off the bypassed socket...obviously if you try to power everything off the doctored socket then your electricity provider will want to know why your usage has fallen so sharply....It just saves you a thousand euro you would have spent on Kerosene
