the pharmacy is screwing you is one possibility, or the company that makes it has an agreed price with hse and it can't be changed more than likely the former but iv'e heard the latter used as an excuse too

The pharmaceutical industry in the state is controlled by vested interests. That's why they were so reluctant to issue generic drugs.

I take St. Johns Wort myself for depression but I have to buy it in the North from Holland and Barret! Brian Cowen stopped them selling it here back in 2000! There were 50,000 people taking them at the time! That's a lot of people to switch over to prozac!

I also take Protium as I have ulcers in my oesophegus! Costs pennies in the UK but €88 per month here.

Saw my pharmacist the other day driving a 2010 Bentley right enough.

Some times I think we're all just fodder for vested interest groups who contribute to political parties!

dunno

Got it in one!

Thouroghly agree with you..am disgusted by this move to put St Johns Wort on prescription....

It is said that In germany, more people use St Johns wort than the synthetic anti depressants....

I also take Protium as I have ulcers in my oesophegus! Costs pennies in the UK but €88 per month here.

Protium (pantoprozole 20mg) is now available over the counter..and there are a number of generics to choose from if taking the higher strength on precription.

As A general comment, the prices of many of the more expensive meds....steroid asthma inhalers, statins etc have fallen since the start of 2011...

Saw my pharmacist the other day driving a 2010 Bentley right enough.

Off hand, i dont know of a generic on the irish market....must check tomorrow...

The hse agree a cost price with the manufacturers..thats where it starts....there should be very little difference in price between pharmacies.....

Think harney went easy on the multinational pharmaceutical companies coz they are big employers here....but there have been major price reductions introduced last month and more significantly, this month...esp for some of the most expensive meds...

I've been taking Xalatan eye drops for Ocular Hypertension since last August. While I was still in Ireland I was paying €42, now I am paying £18 ( €21 ) exactly half the price!!
AAAnd I'm still using a private prescription that was written out for me just before I left Ireland, once I register with a doctor here I'll be paying £7.20 ( €8.50 , which is an 80 percent saving
confused
It's amazing how the exact same thing can cost so much less just cos your buying it somewhere different.
Oh and just out of interest sake, each bottle is just 2ml!!
