ali110: why this term is used in the world ?
It is down to a difference in cultures.

In western culture many men are brought up to believe that you put women first in all considerations. For instance, if you went to a restaurant, you would pull out the lady's chair to seat her first, before you take your own seat. You would let her choose her meal first, or wine, or set the tone for a conversation.

Women, still, in some places go through doorways first, the man holding the door open for her.

It is considered good manners respecting women this way. They would never, for instance, as in many places in the East, walk behind a man, or eat last at a family meal.

Women here have traditionally always been put first because it is the highest form of respect for them, as mothers and wives and daughters.

Some people today don't agree with this, and mixing of cultures, and losing of values, as well as media inteference, have sadly changed this in a few places, but over all it is still considered good manners to put women first in all things.

A woman considers a man as a gentleman for doing this.wine
