The USA was fired on first from a launch of a grenade missile from the Pirates. USA fired back for their own protection.
We lost 4 great people.
Normally USA will take the time to send in Navy Seal fighting forces to rescue the hostages first.
Why did the US decide to fire back so promptly?

The FBI tried to negotiate with the pirates. They thought that they had a done deal to release the hostages. When USA sent in the Navy Seals, the pirates saw that and killed the hostages.
The deal by the FBI was to exchange the yacht that the hostages were sailing on (Expensive) in exchange for the hostages.
When the Navy Seals got there, they found the hostages dead.
The Seals moved out of the way...then this boom, boom, boom by the US Military...

I believe those of us with the skills, should charter a cruise ship to sail up and down the coast. Nothing like a free fire zone on the high seas. warheads on foreheads! There is a small coastal town where the pirate leaders are building mansions. A couple of airstrikes on that town would put a dent in the problem. But i personally would sign up for the armed cruise with some of my toys. I would like to hunt mother ships.

My fahter was a Taxi (cab) driver and he used to drive many people around, among them there was a Catholic priest who would go to many places but in his bag he did carry:
A rosary for the son's of God and
a Gun for the .....ones who were not son's of god.

You have to be selective in the air strikes. Pretty much any structure over waist high is the result of ill gotten gains and, is more than likely fair game for targeting.

Sparky55: Good post, there's a way to stop this nonsense but someone has to have the backbone to do it. I've heard some of those merchant ships were looking into hiring personal security contractors to fend off these attacks. Frankly, I think this is a great idea and would love to see some of these pirates attack a ship only to be met with guns blazing from their desks and terminating their asses.
Of course, this does present a problem when these ships go to port to unload or load their goods but I think that could be worked through diplomatic channels.
Unfortunately, that wont bring back these last 4 people lost to greed and lawlessness. May they rest in peace.
