I like all bright colurs, but they don't suit me well I think. I am not sure what colors are good for me, so I tend to wear more of grey than any other color. sigh

SidneyWells: Have been putting more importance in colors i normally wear,i believe colors have a powerful influence right from a simple evening date to how my carrier develops,a quarrel with a spause may have simply been sparked by an ugly color your wearing.A job promotion or demotion may easily be attributed to your favourite color,if your boss has recently been picking on you its better you change your colors.

So whats your favourite color and why?lol

Since I was little, my favourite colour has remained the same and on any form that asked me for it: Technicolour!!laugh

jac379: We all like you, mnowsa, but how's any woman gonna see what you look like if you don't show yourself?

I'm sure you've had a photo of your face on here before, so what's the problem?

How about going and getting a photo done professionally? Fuzzy photos and distance photos are all very well if you're not looking, but not much cop if you are.

I should have replied to your other comment by now, but sometimes I have to have a wee think.

Its not just that we all see colours differently, but also there is no universal language for describing colour. I talk of light reflective and absorbing properties, you talk of warm and cold tones.

Its rather tricksie to communicate in the medium of words and I suspect, if we were to have a heap of fabric swatches in front of us, we might understand each other's language for colour.

Having said that, I have a friend who I bicker about colour with. I tend to see the constituent ingredients of a colour, she sees the overall effect. She's also 5 years older than me and treats me like her little sister, ergo she's always right. I get petulant. rolling on the floor laughing

In my language a red or arange with the meerest hint of blue would have a cold tone to it

But a blue with the meerest hint of red would have a warm tone to it

a green with a hint of yellow = warm tone
a green with a hint of blue = cold tone.

I think you might call them tints. I think that the light absorbing or reflecting properties you talk about for each colour may be changes depending who is wearing that particular colour and that could depend on whether the colour has a warn or cold tone to it. Do you reckon it makes any sense? laugh

Yes and no.

The light reflecting properties of a colour are constant, like frequency and wavelength. My language kinda comes from the perspective of one who matches fabrics with threads and other notions. I have a handful of red threads and can always find a match. I have about 10 boxes of green threads and can never find a match. To me, red is light absorbing, it kinda sucks up surrounding colours as green is reflective and insists on being the older big sister who's always right. grin

So, I get the warm/cold tone thing in the blue/red scenario, but not in the green scenario that you describe above, which I know is illogical according to the way you see and describe it.

See? Clear as mud with an orange tone from a hint of ferrous compounds. laugh

I get what you're saying about absorbing and reflective properties now!!! Is that why they say when taking a photo if no one is wearing red put something red in the picture? Because it somehow gels all the colours? cheers

About the tones:

The colours considered warm are red orange yellow
The colours considered cool are blues

Mix a hint (or more) of the warm ones into a cool colour to give it a warm tone ...

Mix a hint of the cool ones into a warm colour to give it a cold tone ...

In the green scenarion a green that pulls more towards the blue will have cold tones. A green that pulls more towards the yellow will have warm tones

Tones can also be called hues I think!!!

Talking about mud some of the earth on the mountains round here have the most beautiful oranges and reds in them. As you go more towards the west the mountains scenes are unbelievable changing from ocres to beiges, to oranges and reds. Looks stunning with the added variety of all the different greens of the vegetation.

I absolutely get what your saying about warm and cool tones in theory, but again I have issue with the green thing. My front room is painted and dressed in green (you can never have too much green).

Its quite a bluey green and north facing. In the summer its very cool, (some would say sulky), but in the winter its deliciously warm and cosy. I think green maybe just does as it damn well pleases and refuses to bend to arbitrary rules, or run with the crowd. Maybe this is why I like it so much. grin

thumbs up Love the way you describe green and your front room!!! laugh

In colour therapy it is said that you are drawn to the colours you need to bring balance to your life. Each colour has a different rate of vibration in energy terms. Which is why as mentioned earlier in the thread by several posters and the OP different colours affect people differently.

Green is the colour of the heart chakra and has healing properties. The aura of healers is often green.
