Lady/woman/girl... doesn't matter so long as it's not 'dawg'... or something else equally derogatory

generally get referred to as a lady in work...usually when mothers are taking toys off their kids and the nice lady will mind it till they come back for it, kinda makes me feel a bit uncomfy though i dont know why dunno

I think the term 'lady' is just a step above 'woman' for some reason. When we're trying to be polite, we always address the female of the species as a lady....if she is in our company. But if the person isn't in our company, we feel comfortable calling her a woman....

Okay the reason i put up this thread is that one day i referred to a group of females i was speaking about as 'the ladies'.
One of the women in the office i work in said; "Why don't you refer to them as women and stop partonising them".
I said i was not patronising them. She said that using the term 'ladies was patronising and demeaning and that i should refer to them as women'. She went on to say that she was not a girl, not a lady and was a woman.
So i said to her that the last i heard 'a lady' was a term of respect, just as a gentleman was a term of respect to men. I asked her when did that change???
She never responded to that.

To me she was speaking nonsense but she got very heated about it, was i wrong on this one?

Would agree think it was a bit of an over reaction on her part. Working in a female dominated work place also, we have been called a lot worse than ladies!! laugh
