Jaysis i used to for Argos years ago before i can rember the manager encouragen us to take small change its just bad management really you should complain to consumer rights or the head office of super valu esp if your a local customer there and shoped there for years jumped up young lad i reckon the manager was.

That is terrible ......the poor man. I would call the Musgrave Head Office in Tramore Rd and ask to speak to an Area Manager or somebody in the Customer Services Dept. Musgraves hate bad press .....good luck.

hes actually a very powerful person in our town so i think maybe newspapers would be bit nervous to write anything about him, pity he forgot where he came from and how he got where he is today,it was all that change money from customers down through the years made him what he is today, just felt really bad for my dad to go through that crap for nothing

Ring Supervalu Head Office in Cork and make a complaint. I'm sure, if you get to speak to the right person, they will be very receptive of your feedback.
This behaviour is totally unacceptable.
Also...would advise you to get the persons name that you speak to...and to even send a letter of complaint in writing. Always best to have a complaint documentated.

Heres their ph no. 021 4803000

Hope your dad is ok after being treated so poorly. hug

Money is money and it all spends the same to me, your or anyone. That's unfortunately the attitude of so many people/shops in this country. Rude beyond belief. And they keep getting away with it as no one complains "ah, sure, that's how it is" - No, that's not how it is or how it should be. Firstly and foremostly - never set foot in the shop again, full out boycott of them as someone else said - also as someone else already said - contact your local paper. I mean this in a good way so please don't take it wrongly - a Pensioner treated this way is something they will take interest in - I see it enough in my own local paper - name and shame them! You've gotten a great start here on CS - now just move it into other medias as well - Chains like that have media watchers who are paid to scan all forms of media for any mention of the company - good or bad - so you'll be making a 2 sided attack - plus it highlights to the community what has happened - and if he's done that to your father - I'd bet you a drink and a pack of crisps that he's done it to others Pensioners, and who knows who else - so I'm sure anyone it has happened to who didnt say anything will read your fathers story and be motivated to making a complaint of their own. And in the meantime - also make a complaint via this - I've done this myself at one point and all I'm willing to say on this forum is that I had great results with it - so please feel free to private mail me if you want any further info or support in contacting them.

There is a law in this country that no retailer has to accept over 50 coins in any transaction (not saying he had more or less than 50)

Sorry to hear your dad was upset, the trip to the shop is obviously part of his routine. Unhappy customers are not good advertising for anyone.

Absolutely!
No way should he be allowed to get away with it.
Unfortunately...it sounds like this rude obnoxious git is probably the store owner and as a result probably wont have any backlash to deal with as such.
He will no doubt though be contacted by head office about your complaint...thats the best you can hope for I'm guessing. very mad

i understand you and thanks for the link, but the manager of that store didnt even count out the amount of coins my dad had so he didnt know how many of them were there, just picked them up and handed them back to my father, that is inacceptable,if this is the law in our country then maybe the government need to get rid of these small coins since you are only allowed to spend 50 of them at any one time, think of it 50 1 or 2 cent coins is not going to buy you much in any supermarket is it,and also he doesnt seem to have a problem with someone counting all the chnage money in the tills and the end of a work day,

I know, I doubt that law was the reason. Your dad just came up against someone being ignorant and obnoxious.

You know your dad better than anyone, and if you were to take this further it may cause him further stress and ultimately be bad for his health.

I would certainly boycott the store and encourage your friends and family to do so also.
