godeas69: The constitution was written in 1937 by Dev and archbishop mcquaid, to say it needs an update is an understatement. politicians promised in the build up to the election there would be one by 2016 centenery, the only modern law we have is the european human rights law, our constitution is weak cos things were different in 1937.
The constitution was a far cry from the principles espoused in the declaration read out on the steps of the GPO in 1916. I think Dev sold out on the Irish people at the behest of the Church and the special interests.

id only go to mass for christenings, weddings and funerals and its only for the people not because i believe in it. the way i see it is if there was a god then he should be striking down the people that dont deserve to live instead of those that do, if he is what controls the world so to speak then why have we had so many natural disasters, why are there so many sick and starving children and why are there so many incurable diseases. i get that there are people who believe he/she/it exists sure my nana goes to church every day come sun, rain or snow and shes in her 80s and can barely see but it comforts her so who am i to judge why she believes. i think it is a thing of whats right for the individual as opposed to whats forced on the masses, maybe if it hadnt been shoved down our throats for so long it might be different but with all the scandals that are just gonna keep coming out i doubt thats ever gonna happen dunno

happdude: So we were better off then? it's not that I disagree, it's a good point, but I just wanted to be clear.

back then they had an excuse to worship the sun. now with all the knowledge we have we still believe in a god. at least we know the sun exists.

Why is the law reform comission work at such a slow pace or is it part of the problem as well?

Sound logic. I always saw Christianity as a negative foreign influence. I mean what do we want getting mixed up in middle-east religion for?
I never bought the peaceful, miraculous conversion of Ireland either. Apparently people felt abandoned by the remote druids, so they took to priests speaking in latin with their backs turned to them? sounds mighty iffy.
