Jason, you just have to be yourself and as Phoenix says, show your character via the site, as I'm sure you know there is a wide variety of ways to do so here..
Though I had a quick look at your profile and I'd recommend removing a few things:
Its not important how you connect to the site, as being on it you clearly are. As for webcam/talking, I think you will find most people feel the same way, though talking on the phone is also good, and people can go with the flow as they get to know each other via mail, so I don;t think its important to state it, (though you will always get scammers, we all do).. I'd say people are more interested in knowing more about your hobbies, interest, music and so on...
As for what you look for, looking for someone with children is fine, but does this men you then exclude those that do not have any yet??
Also, I'd leave out the 'we should all do our bit' as its not a duty for us to have children. I'm sure that's not what you mean but it is how it could be read, rather it should be out of love and what both parties want.
I'd definitely remove your reference to other sites as well as FB. You do not have to explain your past choices regarding sites and so on, though if a lady asks, certainly say that you tried other avenues which did not work and now find yourself here..

And yes there is more to life its up to you what you want from it and how you go about achieving it. Meeting the right person may happen tomorrow or it may happen in 10 years time. The point is don't give up hope as it can happen any time in your life and when you do meet them the wait will be worth it, though you do need to make the effort yourself too.
Be happy in yourself as you can't expect someone else to make you happy, good luck and get yourself chatting to people on here.
