Yuk....I would imagine that some butchers might use a sauce to cover up stuff that is going off..but jees it's bad when there are maggots on it.. I rarely buy anything pre made...I make everything from scratch, it doesn't really take a lot longer and you know what is going in to it.

my uncle owns a factory that prepares and sells pretty much every type of meat going but he would never use anything that is close to going off, everything he sells is 100% fresh and he would rather chuck meat out then risk his business and reputation on trying to make a quick buck conversing

I don't think this has anything to do with meat being gone off.Flies will lay eggs on any meat if left uncovered when they are around.Maggots are the larvae of those big buzzing bluebottles as we call them.I think this this a hygiene/HACCP issue in the butchers,if she had the meat properly covered and in fridge.

When i was a teenager i worked in tesco, and i was just general floor staff anyway their was a butchers in the shop and they would never clean up after the day was over and once me and a other person who worked their were told we had to clean out the butchers display, So we didnt really want to do it because the butchers was a different department but we did it anyway.

It had a odd smell, after washing down the bit where the meats are layed out, we lifted up the grid bit at the lower end it was full of gone off meat must have been their for ages, it was black and swarming with maggot's !!

I told every customer i saw going buy meat from the butchers not to buy from here then they eventually shut down the butchers part in tesco

thumbs up It only takes a day for the egg to hatch and then 3/4 days until it reaches the pupa stage - so it's more likely to be poor hygeine rather than poor meat quality.
Mind you - it would certainly put me off that particular butcher and I would report it to them.

i was doing so maintence work in zan abbotoir once. And was watching them do the food and what i saw they way they treat animals and the meat not good. But the one that put me off buying food insauce. Was when i saw them using steak that didnt look to fresh so they put in the bbq sauce. I asked some1 about it and said its the norm the customer will never know.
