So I´ve been away for almost three months and return to a completely new set up here. I think I get the gist of most of the changes, but the thumbs???
I think I´ve posted only two or three times during the past week or so for the first time and received a couple of red thumbs for completely benign posts. I have a feeling they were received because the thread poster to whom I responded in a positive manner is not currently so popular for some unknown reason and being "red thumb stalked". (I was going to post the laughing emoticon after that last sentence, but in fact it´s not really funny at all).
Why are silly, vindictive people being allowed to do this? It makes no sense, and if it continues I for one will just stop posting.
Perhaps the rest of you have got used to this already and are able to ignore it?

Condemned666: It means you got a fanbase i've had a few of those red thumbs myself, doesn't it just make you feel wanted
I´m not looking for a fan base, but I don´t like being red thumbed for something I post which is not controversial whatsoever. That smacks of of senseless vindictiveness.
Curiously, the EU forum where I have more often posted in the past does not seem to have many green or red thumbs in the posts or threads. Does that suggest anything to you?

Yeah i agree it could be vindictiveness it could also be a misunderstanding of a post what with this being the international forum or it could be what jlw45 said, Or someone who spends way to much time on this site. Personally i think it's the Moderator kitten.

Your observation is probably correct, Jan.
You are a longtime poster here, well liked and respected. Dont let idiots and vindictive people run you off. The thumbs thing was amusing to start with; now, its simply a cowardly, cliquey thing. The silly, vindictive people you speak of have nothing better to do.
Take no notice, and it is so good to see you and other old time posters back here recently. Im off back out to the front porch to enjoy the sunset.

I´ll try to take no notice, but it is annoying!
Why do I get the feeling that it is women who are playing this vindictive game more than the men? Sad no?
Enjoy the sunset and have a virtual coffee with me.
Green thumbs should mean "this comment was particularly well put". Red thumbs should mean "this comment was unhelpful or mean".
When the red thumbs are used just from a grudge against a particular writer, then they lose their usefulness.
I think it would be good if we could see who gave the thumbs. I'd actually rather have it made known which posts I gave a green or a red thumb to. Even if I were giving red thumbs out of spite, if someone had annoyed me that much I'm sure I'd actually prefer to have my personal grudge visible. The anonymous red thumbs are both cowardly and silly.
If someone was being stalked by a red thumb enemy, it wouldn't be such a bother as long as they could see it was the same person every time.
So my suggestion is keep the thumbs but make them not anonymous.
A couple of weeks ago there was a virtual "rash" of complaints about the red thumbs. I note that none of the posters in those threads have posted in this one.
If you a "friend" of the poster in such threads, they cry Alas, Poor Poster. If you are not, they red thumb you. It is so obvious and predictable, it is laughable, and the Mods are aware.
Anyway, its 9pm here; no doubt the Night Shift Thumbers will be on soon, so thats something to look forward to, at least...

I think the red bandit(s) is giving red thumbs because they probably think their opinion won't be respected. What better way to give your opinion without repercussions then to hide behind it.

Totally, totally agree. Show yourselves. Dont be snide and cowardly.

That's not a bad idea there may even be a decline in the red thumb syndrome as they won't be anonymous anymore
