Seeing that so many women's profiles state that they want a male that can make them laugh, one can only conclude that the most popular suiy would be that of a clown's suit... Natural suits are somewhat unpopular except in private it seems as at other times not and even potentially criminal which then results in having to 'wear' a Law suit...
I prefer smart casual ... A man with taste looks amazing in smart casual clothes... way smarter than a man wearing a non-descript suit and tie.
Used to have this "argument" with some of my work colleagues who used to think they looked smart just because they had a suit and tie on. They didn't!! Nothing is more un-smart than a badly cut suit!!
However, a well cut suit with a well chosen colour shirt and tie can make a guy look dropdead gorgeous!! Have met very few men "who have it" when it comes to choosing shirts & ties to match their suits ...
Just my opinion as a woman who grew up in France and was spoiled by the natural in bread elegance of the way people dress there!!!

Some men suit a well cut suit, some don't.
Some men like wearing suits, some don't.
I think people should wear what they like, are comfortable in, is practical for what they're doing, or what they look good in. For some that's a suit, for others old rags.
I care surprisingly little for a tailor, or maybe because I am a tailor. Its unimportant.

It all depends on the suit and the person. Some people can look like they've been thrown through Oxfams window when they're in a suit. It just doesn't look good on them.
A good tailored suit will usually look a lot better than an off the rail one.
If it's a formal function, I do like men in suits. If it's smart casual, a suit jacket and smart jeans can look as good.
