marijo70: such a wonderful love story.. love it... rest in peace.
Hi sweetie....To think she died an hour after he did. It's just as well cause she would have been miserable without him. Finally a story where children are proud of their parents...

A real love story. Actually, these long marriages were not that unusual here until recently. I think its sad that they are becoming so rare nowadays

I think they are rare because of how drastically times have changed.
72 years ago hubby and wife had an argument and they talked about it.
Today, hubby and wife have an argument and she calls Missy Sue and he goes to the bar or the garage. Lack of communication.
A relationship shouldn't be judged by the good times...it should be judged how you handle it when things go wrong...

So sad, in sickness and in health, for better or for worse, for richer for poorer, people say these words so easily, and yet, when they feel the first bump in the road, they run away
I agree, communication and how you handle the bad times, and everyone has bad times, is what matters
My eldest brother, was married for 35 years, and lost his wife to an incurable disease.....she was the love of his life.....he was lost without her.....then, he lost his son, unbearable......just as the autum years of his life were passing by....he was reacquainted with a neighbour.....a woman who had also lost her partner.....they became friends......lovers......and next week, they are to be married, he is 67, she is 70......a true love story.....love, for both of them, second time around, bitter sweet

OMG.....so sad to lose his wife and especially their child. We are supposed to die before our children do. I think that's wonderful that he has found happiness in the senior years of his life. It may not be like the love he had the first time around but it's a good second best...
I had an aunt and uncle that were similar, but they weren't married that long. My uncle never went back to his house after my aunt died. It was too painful for him. (We all cope w/loss in different ways.)
