womaniser: hi all, im looking to buy a good digital camera for a girl as a present, any recommendations??

Ah is it her birthday??? Fuji has always been a good make for me..never had any problems with them & good price range in argos

Really depends on what you pay. Some phones take better pics than the cheapy digital camera. There is a lovely Pink Nikon DSLR in the Fuji shop on the top level of Dundrum Shopping Centre. Its limited edition and a steal at 845 euro. 
I had a much older version of this camera and it was brilliant. I am just a point and shoot idiot. I have been told by real photographers that Optical Zoom is much more important than digital zoom. Also this camera has a rechargeable battery which is way better than messing around with AA batteries which never seem to hold the charge as well as the Li-ion ones.
My profile pic was taken a few years back with an old olympus which only had a 5xoptical zoom and 8MP. This one has 10x optical zoom and 14 MP I think. The price seems good too.

I have an Olympus Myself and its a grand little camera. Alas there are strong rumours that Olympus is about to go bust though, so it might be best to stay clear of them

Yikes... I dont have mine anymore.
I have a panasonic Lumix fz38 and a Panasonic Lumix TZ10(for the pub shots lol..it's got 12 MP and 12 Optical zoom)
Panasonic Lumix is very good. It was recommended to me by a professional photographer and I've no complaints. There are a few of them depending on how much you want to pay.

Pretty much any of the Fuji Finepix cameras are good. I've been using nothing but them for years and for2 or 3 hundred quid you dam close the quality of the higher end cameras.
all depends on what you want, small as possible, easy as possible, semi-pro for the smallest amount, what's your budget, etc...
Personally, I think Canon Ixus (small) and Canon Powershot (little bit bigger and a little more functionality) are very hard to beat.

my advise; First, decide how much you want to spend... Second, figure out what basically what kind of camera she would want (small as possible, easy as possible, or does she want one with loads of different options), third, work yourself down this list and find the highest rated one that matches your criteria :
ah, ok, they're not cameras but ranges of cameras. There's many different Canon Ixus and Canon Powershots, all diferent prices and models/functionalities... Do you alrady have an answer to what I said in my previous post (how much to spend, what basic kind of camera should it be?)

I picked up a Fuji Finepix F70 from Tesco on a half price offer for £99.
They always seem to have good deals on cameras, and that was definitely a good deal.
