I smoke and its my house and I still go outside. Not only is it respectful to my significant other who does not smoke, but second-hand smoke stains clothes and penetrates furniture, etc.

It's just common sense, and respect. tip hat

in vancouver, there's no smoking in bars, restaurants, all public buildings or near the entrances. it is also not permitted to smoke in parks or at the beaches anymore. having said that, i am a smoker. i smoke when i am where there are smokers and it's permitted, and don't smoke when i am around non-smokers. i always smoked outside when my son still was at home. so..guess i'm one of those courteous smokers, but still trying to quit. would really like to be free of it for all the reasons we already know.

It really is a tuff one to give up!

I've just been reading through the posts and most of the smokers have acknowledged to some degree that smoking is dangerous (eg:not doing it near children)

Yet they still smoke!

Curious! confused

Hi Rock, here in the UK we have a TV ad running regards adults smoking and all the ads are done by children requesting a parent or loved one to give up smoking so they wont die.

It's quite poignant but whether it works is another matter.Like any addiction the person themselves has to want to quit.wave

Hi BBwave

I understand they have to really want to stop.. I went through it 8 years ago.
but i find it so bizarre, it's like they/we don't want to accept that it's doing them/us harm.. yet deep down we know that it is!

confused

Personally, I didn't quit because I was worried about the harm it was doing to me. I quit because a lady here told me that she would NEVER date a smoker. Even thought her and I never met, nor intended to, the idea of being turned down by a future someone made me think. So I quit. Easy as that ! dancing

I think that in the old days when peeps grew their own baccy (no chemicals) and lead active lives and ate healthy foods, smokers AND their families lived till a ripe old age.

But with today's lifestyles and bad eating habits including hormone ladden meats and vege full of pesticides add to that all the chemicals breathed in with todays tobacco ... not a good combination!!

And Yep!! I'm still smoking for now!! blushing

kissmedeeply: Now i dont want smokers here giving me a hard time..i am not ditching people who smoke..I am simply just asking a question and wondering if i am being selfish..
If you have a smoker in the house but others do not smoke..is it fair for the non-smokers..(children) to have to breathe this in?
We all know that second hand smoke is the worsed..I think that if their is a smoker in the house.why couldnt they go outside to smoke if they want to continue to smoke..I hear its my house and if i want to smoke then i can smoke..if you dont like you guys go outside.. Is that fair Really? I care about my children and myself..i know what smokeing can do to a woman..i read up on it..give them heart disease..stroke..cervical cancer and so on..that is just from second hand smoke...if i was doing to myself then its my fault..

I think smokers should not impose their nasty habit on non-smokers.So yes....they need to get their butt outside if that is what it takes.
When i was pregnant at 26 i quit cold turkey so i know what it is to smoke..but i thought of someone else then myself..

Opinions would be greatly appreciated..
