magiclove65: Britain is the home to English Language

yea, England is the home of the island English language. Hardly anyone uses that version anymore. However, the continental English version originating in these states is far more popular since WWI.

2intrigued: I think a lot of British peeps immigrated to Canada during the war of which many ended up in the east coast...this is probably why the dialect is prevalent where you are. My parents immigrated to Canada, landing in the east coast and settling into Ontario...explains why a lot of Canadians use that dialect

and most of the Scottish moved to Canada too - hence the mix to get the true Canadian dialect. - well I am back to the country stereotypes thread. head banger

Here in Spain, English is taught by native English speakers, hence the Spanish are learning the correct way to speak English.
In fact in the international schools around Alicante, they even follow the English national curriculum.cheers

rizlared: Um no, British English is a specific language and is very different to American English.

British English is a recognised term by the two leading language Universities in the UK as representing Standard English; American English is recognised as a derivation of that language.

But if you want to disagree with Oxford and Cambridge Universities…………….

Oh, and in all versions of English there is a space after a punctuation mark!!!

Thank you.

And don't get me started on the misuse of the apostrophe....?!! roll eyes

I find that comment offensive towards me.

I am perplexed as to why you would find the statement of another's wealth offensive towards you.....confused

Actually not true, American English is only taught in the US of A, and south America, every european country is taught British English, as are those in India, and the middle east. However, in China, and certain other Asian countries they also teach a smattering of American as it helps to stop the confusion, where is is explained that American English is lazy English and that we should feel sorry for their lack of ability to use the language as it was intended.hug

rizlared: Lets see how much does America owe to the Chinese??? over 3 billion I believe, not so the Great Britain

America is becoming more and more dependant on immigrant workers, and buying from cheap overseas companies. Not So in the United Kingdom.

I think you will find America was started by europeans, same as England

And unlike American Presidents who can be black muslims, the British Royal Family are caucasian and must follow Christianity.

Hey have you seen that the royal family has got Indian genes into its blood ? laugh handshake

galrads: England did not come out on top here in the USA and if Roosevelt hadn't given your dipsomaniac leader Churchill an endless credit card, Britain would've been mostly German by now, instead of Half-Americans.

Enjoy your snot of tea.

I assume you are talking about WW II that famous American led war on Fascism (according to Hollywood that is!) Strange isn't it that rather than supporting the war against that particular group of dictators you profiteered from those fighting ON YOUR BEHALF. It took us until the beginning of this century to pay for the 'generous aid' you provided in the fight for freedom from fascism. Your country should be ashamed of the behavior you showed to ALL the countries involved in that fight. We survived the first few years of the war in spite of your profiteering not because of it. As to your debt to China, for fighting the war to free everybody from Anti-American governments, I call it Karma and it makes my day.
