For me its going on skitrips with my friends. Being the first one down the side of a mountain after a snowfall feels better than ... Ok maybe not better than great ... but atleast better than ... all alone.
the best thing about winter for me it will be going to do tubogging with my niece making snowman and snowball's fights and shovel ton's of snow for older peoples and make couple of dollars for my niece to buy her christmas gift and we usually decorate the christmas tree at grand ma place and drink egg nogg and make alot of pies. In january we go on the rideau canal to skates and eat a beaver tail.In febuary we cook nice muffin, cake ect... in heart shapes and decorate the house with heart's and candles. In march we have alot of birthday in our family so it's party time on the 4(brother) 5(cousin) 9(cousin) 10(mine) 14(sister) 17(aniversary of something) 18(cousin) 21(cousin) anyway we party alot in march.
Of Course There is the Holidays...but this seems to be a more overall seasonal question. Loving the skiing.
Once or twice a season the chance comes about to ski in the morning and then surf in the afternoon. When this is done with friends, the best elements of team and individual accomplishment are felt. The change in climate and topography feels as if at least 2 days were merged in to 10-12 hours.
The nose hairs freeze so I can't breath I have to ware so many pieces of clothing, I don't dare fall down, I'll never get up. Ever year that shovel STILL fits my hand. Last 4'of snow in the drive, and the dang plow comes by and fills it back in. Can not walk my dog because she's to short and the wee freezes to her... After finishing the drive, then comes the roof of the house.
BUT........the smell of wood burning stoves fill the air.
The silence at 2am is soooooo calming.
The huge snow flakes fall silently to the ground and hold my attention so much so that I loose track of time.
The animals come out of the woods so close to the house you could almost reach out and touch them thru the window.
The full moon during winter is like the big guy upstairs turning all his lights on.
The sweet calm quiet that comes with a light snow falling through the trees onto the snow covered ground as you world shrinks to a misty gray smallness.
Did I make any gramatical errors... sombody please spell check me before the proper grammer police show up.
A friend has a cabin not too far from Breckenridge and a group of us usually spend a few weekends each winter there... some go skiing, some snowmobiling, while others just hang out. The first trip is coming up next weekend!
The grammer police have a green light to go crazy on my posts. It may be there only joy in life correcting peoples gramatical errors and who am I to rob them of that?
Back to the subject. It seems that most people (including me) find the winter to be a time for spirituality.
Every 5 years or so there is a REALLY good Winter. Anyone from Scandanavia or any other TRUE ski area would consider the skiing inferior, but to take 7-10 (even) novice runs and then watch the sunset over the ocean in the evening and to still be in motion is beyond words.
Yep... When I lived in Aurora me an some buddys used to cross country. We allways looked for places with out tracks.
We came close to being buried in a narrow vally when the side of the mountain stormed down and completely filled the vally. Snow moves faster than a flash flood. I was shocked at how fast it moves. Took trees, boulders and even a hugh outcrop of rock with it. Missed us by mere feet.
