then bow to Mecca Tuesday. Light the menorah Wednesday. Protestant Prayer Thursday. With Trinity Fish Friday.(anyone I've missed in subsequent weeks)
Actually not proponent of prayer in schools. Firm believer in teaching tolerance at a young age. Did Ethics classes go the way of Latin? Wasn't an Ethics class manditory even into the mid 70's. Shouldn't at least some more intensive "discussion" of right and wrong be brought back. I say let the kids Moderate themselves though..they couldn't do any worse.
we had prayer groups in school before test if you wanted we would say a prayer all together if you didnt want to pray then you didnt
with all the test kids take you think the school systems would wnat the kids to pray all they can to pass the test so the teacher wouldnd have to see the same kids the following year
as far as the tests go I've heard that in some parochial shools they are actually encouraging meditation or "relaxation techniques" and are finding anxieties lower.
kinda cool to see the parochials extend the first olive branch.
there's not a damned soul that could stop prayer in schools. i don't need to chant...or talk...or fall to my knees to say a little prayer.
if there is ONE thing i pass on to my children, just one...it would be a strong sense of ethics. not morality, not intelligence, not the law, not sweetness, or any of that. ethics.
there is nothing more important...and BEHIND good ethical behavior is the ability to REASON...to think critically.
our school, still says the pledge of alligence, (sp) with one differce if you dont believe in god you dont have to say under god.. they are still allowing prayer in our school, and that is one reason i want my kids to continue to attend the school that my dad, uncle, me and my brother and sister went to
i haven't said the pledge since i was in about third grade. i flat-out refused...was sent out of class...and the final determination was that as long as i was quiet, they didn't so much care.
my loyalty, even then, was to people...not a freaking flag.
