I had my ankle broken that time....was not allowed to walk on my feet and was forced to sit all day, watching TV or play with the nintendo and playstation.

I sat at my mum's place and watched the news...couldn't believe my eyes....it was so surreal..

Oxford. I was buying music sheets as the news broke of the first plane hitting. We all just stopped and watched in horror, as the second plane hit live on TV. blues

Terrible day that shouldn't have happened.

I was in Fort Worth, Texas at my home.

I was in bed sleeping when my boss called me on the phone to put me on alert, that I may have to leave for Washington. "State", I asked? "No, D.C., I'll call you back with the arangements."

I did not ask why, and fell back to sleep.

Next, I received a knock at the door. It was the insurance adjuster. We had recently had a hail storm and he was there to inspect the damages. He mentioned something to me about planes hitting towers this morning, said it was all over the news. I turned on the T.V.wow

I did not get to watch much, as my boss called again. "Pack your bags, come to my home and pick up my credit card. You are renting a van and driving to pick up some collegues who are unable to get a flight out of D.C.".

With the van rented, I headed towards D.C., staying in touch with the gentlemen who were to be my passengers. The next day, they were able to rent a limo and head south through Virginia. I was traveling north on I-81 in Virginia. We decided to meet in Salem, where they transfered their luggage from the limo into the van and got onboard.

These gentlemen were collegues in the Cement Industry who were in D.C. to have a meeting with the Germans, to discuss importing their product into Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, their meeting never took place, due to the aircraft hitting the Pentagon.

A jolly sort they were! One was from England and he was a real card.
Another was from Houston and the owner and President of a large Cement coorporation, and one other of their collegues joined them.

They were "bored" and said they wanted to drive. I was tired too, after making the long trip to Virginia. They all took turns driving us to Houston International Airport, to pick up their cars.

I returned with the van to Dallas. This was a most enjoyable trip for me and I was paid very very well for it.grin

I missed most of the tragic T.V. broadcasts at the time.

So, I suppose I performed a sort of rescue mission. HL

pedro27: where were you that day?

Getting ready for work: I was in the shower when my sixteen year old daughter came in and told me, I just grabbed a towel and went to the nearest tv which was in my bedroom and watched as tradegy unfolded in front of me. It was such a horrible day. I cried all day at work and home.

I was in New York on a layover to visit family in Ireland. I decided to. go to the WTC to take some photos for a friend who has an interest in buildings and architecture. Being a nice day, I asked the taxi driver to let me out a couple of blocks away so that I could walk and enjoy the city and people. I looked up just in time to see the first plane hit.

Confusion soon gave way to action. I'd been in the Army previously and always carried a medical kit with me in my bag. I started taking care of the walking wounded and rounded up some healthier looking individuals to help me and to help alleviate their shock.

One of the first responders was a young man that I had served with we were best friends from the moment we had met. He went up into the tower to help and never made it out. Another man I had served with worked at the Pentagon. He lost his life that day as well.

Using up the supplies in my medical kit, I tore my shirt into strips to serve as bandages and slings. I encouraged my little band of helpers to do the same, helping as many as we could. Instinct told me not to go into the building, but to stay outside and do what I could. We were covered in dust. I had them cover their mouths and noses with makeshift masks to protect their lungs. I may well have saved their lives that day.

Watching people jump to their deaths, knowing that I could not save them will always live with me.When I finally got home, my husband did not let me go for a long time. I had nightmares for years. They've lessened now over time. I lost two best friends that day and a part of my soul that will never be recovered. The haunting strains of "Amazing Grace" never fails to bring me to my knees.

It is a day that will live forever in infamy. *Sobbing* sad flower
