No Centers for Disease Control CDC – There was a project in Myanmar, former Burma, to distribute mosquito net to the poorest for free. Don’t know who have initiated the project, but the USA part of it object free distribution and started to sell those nets instead. The thing is that those nets don’t cost much – one has to be very poor not to afford them. Disease Control USA style. (Just a little example)

No FBI to aid in criminal investigations – Have rates of crimes declined since FBI been established?

No FAA – Do you mean Federal Aviation Administration? If so, then why the rest of the world would care if it disappears?
No NTSB to investigate plane crashes

No Peace Corp – Other countries have their volunteers as well, it’s not only USA prerogative.

No Sierra Club, Green Peace, Nature Conservancy – Again, there is concern about environment in other countries too.

No American military to deal with despots and terrorists – Should one really take that seriously? American military involvement in other countries created more despots and terrorists than there ever would be without said involvement. (And refugees have been mentioned by other posters)

No Foreign aid to about 65 3rd world countries
No US Dollars for AIDS/HIV treatment & prevention for Africa
No Customers for 3rd world products – And no robbing those places of their resources.

No Western music, Elvis, Little Richard, Michael Jackson, Chuck Berry Bob Dylan
No Mark Twain, O Henry, Jack London, Poe, -- Work of some writers and artists survived the burden of time (Homer, Omar Khayyam, Shakespeare, Rublev, Titian, Mozart, Bach to mention a few) and some don’t.

No jobs for 13 million poor Mexicans – I’ve got to learn at courses in economics that a worker isn’t a liability, it’s an asset. But perhaps, economic laws are different in USA.

No space station, Moon landings, Missions to Mars – The Martians would be grateful for that.

No Corn – No corn? So what?

No power to stand up against Russia or China – You wouldn’t believe it, but they regard themselves as powers (the good ones) that stand against USA.

No Sanctuary – Has there ever been one? By the way, some Iraqi people have found sanctuary in Sweden. Should one send them to USA? To this proper sanctuary.




Is it really a list that describes right the greatness of USA?

America as a continent won’t disappear, USA as a country might. Not that I wish it – when a big and powerful country (and USA is a big and powerful country) falls apart, it creates a lot of grief for its own people and for the rest of the world. Will USA remain as it is in a hundred years? That’s doubtful. Things change with time, because people change. To the better or to the worst? Who knows…
