Even if he did so much bad things, i don't agree with the sentence of death. 
The sentence is passed, but when will they actually hang the man? Personally, I believe this will still go on and on and on... with appeals and more appeals, until eventually the old guy just dies naturally in his prison cell, or in some nice comfortable hospital bed. 
These Dictators who kill their people so cruelly, when the time comes for them to face the music, there is always this sympathy for them... when the people who lived under their tyranny suffered indescribably, and are still suffering. People seem to forget, once the photographs in magazines and newspapers get old and tattered, of the horrors these sort of people condoned. Of their soldiers executing civilians, their peoples children dying of thirst or war woundsl, their lands ravished by bombing, all their crops gone, their livestock destroyed, their homes in rubble.... We are becoming immune to the suffering caused by Dictators and extending our sympathy to them when they stand in the Dock to answer for their crimes. To lead a country is not to destroy it. Unless of course, in this modern world, there is a "Third Force" involved, and Mr Hussein is merely a pawn in the game of international intrigue.
But if you wanna play in the Big League... then you gotta take the consequences.

i think that it has taken so long for him to be sentanced because nationalitys are worried of the come backs as it has great protetial to create a very big war

IMHO, the actual discussion is a bit confusing, so:
SH is just a symptom, not the cause. To be fair, it's a good idea to additionaly consider Iraq's history regarding the whole episode between Balfour declaration (1917) and Abdel Karim Kassem's coup (1958). Bakr just layed the foundation stone. Not to mention CIA's involment regarding 1958. Things are a bit complicated, sometimes.

not exalty the subject i would have chosen to discuss at christmas but because the subject is being aired my opionon isthat the mans fate was decided after the first gulf war the us just waited for the right ime but now i think like in vietnam they will reap the whirlwind from the seeds they and the uk to a leser degree have sown isnt the human race sad

I agree with you, but nevertheless have some doubts regarding the general aim of this topic. Is there any need to discuss SH's personality, guilt, history etc? Or are we simply letting of steam? Preferably, personally I would opt for some deeper insight, although this is not on top, probably. I am not a Sunday Mirror reader (although I admire their analysis, preferably right at this forum) Isn't it that much cheaper to hang a guy than to ask for the reasons? Allow me to put it this way, since my family has been affected and I am not that dumb guy (at least in this respect).

i read die presse and also the times but that does not make my opinion more valid than that of someone who reads the mirror or does no read any paper i wonder what the ordinary people in iraq think of the mess that is leading them to civil war u most probaly have a better insight to the ground root feeling than mostwhat is your thinking on a probable outcome to this mess
Your opinion re Iraq (as well as mine) might differ from what Iraqi 'aborigines' might think. But - let me recall what Irish 'aborigines' think about the mess over there. It's probably not what global news tend to depict. OK - you ask about what Iraqi lower class think. Again, I am not an expert, but I think, their opinions deeply rely on religious ones. Honestly, this is about different beliefes, particulary regarding behaviour. I am not sure, again.
my last remark on this subject is this hitory has judged on all things past and will no doubt debate this at great length but it is the only way to judge when in the final outcome is judged and will they then put history itself on trial i think not. does that make sense..... and now to christmas my god what a sad race we are mankind that is ...

Death sentence is a crime, it is a vile and despicable human action and is not a fair punishment. Hussein was a dictator, yes, harmed lots of people, yes, but on the other hand, I believe that being imprisoned for the rest of his life would be a more painful penalty. Now, he will just suffer for a few seconds and then he will be gone.Plus, with his death, he will be idolised by some of his compatriots, which is far more dangerous.
I speak because I am one of the small people of this earth. Women have always been of the small people. We are the ones who give birth to children who become the victims of war. We were the ones burnt at the stake for having healing knowledge... until the earth got into this god-awful mess governed by learned men.
You want to be a leader? Then be prepared to give your life when your plan doesnt come together. As long as "learned" men make the rules, this world will never heal itself.

Because, as I have already said, I don't agree with capital punishment. But that's probably because I'm not a learned 'man'.
