Legal views or non legal views?))

Legal views.....that the video study was done to be 'a research program for media, historians, and others interested' in the time and activities in North Ireland. A law enforcement investigation into a cold case will fits into the group of parties.

So my quess is that a court ruling would hold you cannot use academic freedom, that are are freedom of speech issues to block a law enforcement investigation. Boston College will be ordered to release the material.

Non legal opinion. She might be able to place enough pressure on the Boston College to fight the release order pretty high in the US court system. With many here still upset over the Lockerbie bomber case in the UK, tit for tat might come into play.

The jury is out ttom500. And it looks like the Judges will allow the tapes/transcripts to remain where they are (in BC)

Basically if the tapes are handed over on a very human level there runs the risk of a mothers life on the line (put politics aside).

The project was set up on the understanding that none of the transcripts would not be released until after the interviewee died (natural causes or other). There also wasn't any political agenda behind it. It was set up purely as a historical reference. So future generations can better understand 'What was it all about'. Today...The relaity is this.

For the moment it's best they stay locked away. Otherwise the North of Ireland's murky past could get a lot more murckier.

I'm sure as certain that Lockerbie was mentioned in some corridor but 'tit for tat' I doubt it. If that was the reason it would be a very weak hand to hold.

He should have know that if he told people certain things there would be a chance they would get into the hands of the PSNI or the public domain. He has nothing to worry about anyway, if the IRA did not kill Steak Knife (Freddie Scappaticci), then they wont kill him.

Gerry Adams is now in the Irish Dail and Martain McGuinness is Deputy First Minister in Nothern Ireland so the IRA's days of hits are long gone. He can sleep safe.

How do you restrict access from one history research group (cold case investigations) are a historical investigation group. From a different historical research group?

Beside we have late dNA findings on new killers/rapists and exonorating other convicted all the time. It is hard to say when new evidence in a case will come to it.

If you going to secrete research projects like this. I think that the project might have been set up to keep the material private until their deaths and then stir the North Ireland pot again. Not a very noble thing to do. But hey I advised GWB too only publish his biography after his passing. Which shows you how much they listened to me in Washington.))
