Momento Mori - Remember your mortality

Not to come across as being too morbid, but death, its something that inevitably will come to us all even if you dont want to believe its going to happen. A topic that we've become very desensitised too and perhaps we dont like to talk about or like to face, perhaps it reminds us that we're only human afterall?

How do you feel about death? The fact that it will happen to you, does it scare you? Something that you worry about? Is it something that maybe you only really begin to think about and becomes a clear reality at a particular age?

Me, I dunno, I dont tend to think about it, so at this moment in time it doesnt worry me, what freaks me out more so is the fact that after I'm gone the world will just carry on, I'm just passing through for what is, in terms of time, a mere drop in an incredibly vast ocean.......I cant comprehend that.

Interesting thread....death fascinates me and peoples attitudes to it intrigues me. So much so Im doing a paper on it for my college dissertation at the moment so I am looking forward to peoples comments on this one.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling.

Still a good talking point though thumbs up
It crosses my mind now and again but I'm glad to say
that I honestly don't know how I'll deal with it until
I've experienced the egg timer on my days cheers

Death is something i never thought about until i had my children.

now ive a reason to escape death more than ever..as 3 little humans depend on me..and i love them more than i ever thought was possible to love..anyone.

its gonna happen to us all..i dont fear it..i do however want it to be as far away as possible so i get as much time possible in the lives of those 3 humans.

Tarzan, the only heavy stuff I've had tonight is a couple of glasses of blackcurrant (must be the sugar? laugh)

Fifi, wow, excellent answer! Cant say I understand how you feel exactly as I'm not in that situation yet, but, someday, hopefully I'll know blushing

Good thread, GS.
Death holds no fear for me as it is just a transition from my present physical state to an eternal existence in my spiritual form. One great advantage of my faith is knowing I am immortal.

Never thought about death until I reached about forty. Now I think of it a fair bit. I've begun to lose one or two of my contemporaries, people I was at school or college with, it's sobering.

Good to see a decent thought provoking thread on here once in a while...

Death, the great equalizer...
As for me and my mortality, its going to happen soon enough, all i want is quick and painless!, In my sleep would be great but thats a luxury with our lifestyles these days...

My mum took 15 years to die with various debilitating illnesses, my dad, her constant carer and companion dropped dead on the doorstep of a heart attack after an illness free life....
So ive seen both sides of the dirt nap...

As for kids, its been well phrased already, there one of the best reasons for keeping your health and sanity in check, god forbid i ever became a burden financially or otherwise to my girls...

So, in summery, not being a religeous bloke, im not expecting any great shakes of an afterlife, i think were best measured by our time and our deeds while here on earth, so make each day count for something and when your time is up be able to say you had a full life and added more to the world than you took away....
Sure, maybe that last para is more for a phylosiphy thread, i dunno!...

AB....

i have had a brush or two with death from many years ago, at the time it didn't cost me a thought, i suppose that is that feeling of immortality that youth gives

how do i feel about death now. well it's not something i fear if it came to pass that i was facing it i'd like to think i would accept it and make the most of the time i have left

i'd like to live long enough to see my son become a man and see his potential fulfilled and guide him in anyway i possibly can

A few people close to me have passed away and even tho I know it comes to us all I never feared death.

I sat and watched my mum slip away hour by hour and wondered how life could be so cruel. I wanted to say so much to her, do so much with her and I took it for granted that I would.
When death was close I told a close family member that I doubted I could be there with my mum and watch her die.
I instinctively knew it was time and did go sit with her, now I can say I'm so glad I did. It was peaceful quiet and nothing to fear and it will come to us all unfortunately some sooner than others.

Its something ive thought about the last while. Im not so much afraid of dying as i am sad that i will. I dont wanna die, who does. I have 3 great kids (yes i know everyone says that their kids are great) but i would love to see them grown and happy. I must admit id like to know when my times up. Id like to take some time to say goodbye to ppl i care for. Ive said that when im burried i wouldnt want ppl to visit my grave. Move on. Im dead and gone. I know they would still go as i visit my friends grave and he died 13 years ago. But id want them to stop.

Thats easily sorted, dont get buried. I have it in my will that I am to be cremated and my ashes scattered, I dont do the grave visiting thing, the person is not there.

Like a lot of people I have thought about dying, not a lot anymore since I have dealt with my depression, I used to say I just wanted to be around to see my children grown but now that I have a grandchild I want to be around longer, hate to think I wouldnt get to see him become a man. I am not afraid of dying as it is as natural as living, just dont want to do it just yet.
