Thanks Vinny; isin't it a pity Ireland could not play like Ukraine. I think Ireland could do worse against Spain if they don't show more enthusiasm. If Ireland's backs continue to just hoof the ball up the field and our midfield do not fight for every ball then we are doomed to a cricket score against Spain. This craic of standing off the ball is a disaster. Part of me thinks that our team is out of their depth in Poland and are being cruelly exposed. What is your opinion about the problem and your cure for our woes?

Ban GAA and Rugby so all the footballers out there are forced to play Soccer Glen laugh

The reality is we have not got the quality to compete Glen. In most sports we as a country punch well above our weight and for a country our size we really over perform in my opinion. Rugby, Golf, boxing are good examples of this.

We don't seem to be producing players of top class ability anymore and I can't quite figure that one out. Where are the Roy Keane's the Liam Brady's that we have had in previous generations ? The quality in this Irish team is just not to the standard that we have had in previous years I'm afraid and as always with us our expectations far outweigh reality.

For me under age coaching is where it all starts and determines how players develop. Am unsure how the Irish FA perform in this area and would not be qualified to comment unfortunately.

Its not that simple Uno.

Our sport has always been GAA and it never stopped us developing top class players before.

I tried to keep it simple Phoenix.

5 points for a correct tip. a winner or a draw.

At the end of the group stages your tips for group qualifiers will be calculated and there are 5 points awarded for each correct tip regardless of finishing first or second in the group.

10 Points for selecting the outright winner.

thumbs up

jimbo79: the answer probably lies in them english clubs, i suppose in the past there wouldn't have been so many youths from other parts of europe playing there, so our lads have been squeezed out, im far from an expert on soccer but that could have something to do with it

I have been thinking about this more since Glen's question Jimbo and I think your right.

With all the money now in the premiership they are buying now from all over the world and most of the tops clubs under age teams have multiple nationalities.

Its a long time since the likes of the great Liverpool and Man U teams were made up of players from these islands.

Good point thumbs up

In fairness Pedro it's an unbelieveable organisation that has done so much good in this country.
Other sports would be wise to emulate how they are structured and its a long way from a hobby for the participants.

Good point
how many of that team have played champions league, o'shea is probably the only one, mclean is a real example of what i was saying, 20 years ago he would have been snapped up at 15 or 16
