To bad I don't have the land for them, Nothing wrong with paying tax, just that why should o/seas book sellers get out of paying them when they sell items here when we have to pay them ourselves. That's why Harvey Norman is trying to set up an o/seas online selling facility to sell stuff back to us without any taxes.
there is an aspect of this you clearly do not understand Daggy
JUST three months after Federal MPs were given a $44,000 pay rise, they are getting another $5550 boost.
The 3 per cent pay rise quietly handed down this week, which is almost double the annual inflation rate, is being derided by one senior figure as the "pollies' own carbon tax compo".
Backbenchers will get an extra $106 a week, taking their salary to $190,550. Combined with the pay rise awarded in March, it means they will receive $49,640 - almost $1000 a week - more than they were this time last year.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard's salary increases by $14,430 to $495,430.
The PM is earning $129,000 - almost $2500 a week - more than she did a year ago.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott gets $10,000 extra to take his salary to $352,517.
He is more than $91,000 better off than a year ago. Treasurer Wayne Swan's wage rises by more than $11,000 to $390,627 - and is up $100,000 over 12 months.
That Texas law will not survive long because it is illegal. Think about it. You buy a widget from an on-line retailer in another country. The money is paid in another country. That means that the transaction takes place in another jurisdiction. The Australian Government cannot jump up and demand a tax payment as a result of a commercial transaction that occurs in another country. It would be no different to a tourist who bought a T shirt in Thailand while on holiday having to pay GST on the purchase when they returned. It is straight out illegal, because the transaction occurs in another country. The same will apply to the Texas tax. It will fall over at the first challenge.

I still think for the stress our head of state has to endure and time put into the job, she deserves as much as the boss of a sporting code on $2 Million who has a fraction of the stress and time on the job.

But it ends up in Texas, sales taxes are exactly that, taxes on sales in that state. If there were no taxes, the place would end up like Greece where so many people operate on the black market that no one pays any tax.

Yes, it is illegal. You may already be aware, but in the USA income tax is also illegal. The 1913 legislation was never actually signed into law. Their IRS get by on bluff and bullying. It folds when there is a serious and informed challenge.

I have to collect GST and pay tax, why should Amazon get away with it in Australia when they have to pay tax in the US?
