I can't really comment as I didn't see too many of Roe's posts but a lot of the goodbye, please stop me threads over the past while have been by people with a victim complex so to speak just hoping to be told how wonderful they are.
Personally I think the idea of setting up a thread to say goodbye is a bit egocentric. I'm sure if you decided to leave you would mail a few friends and keep in contact outside of CS without all the fanfare. Most would I think.

things take time on the net...a lot.
u can get lucky..hit a spark..bam!!!! meet someone u end up with..i know 2 from this site who met at a meet..never spoke on site..and are together bout 5 months now... it is possible to find someone u end up married to or date for a while..or make really good friends with..
but being on the net 15 years one thing i have noticed is the slow burners are usually the most successful..not all, but most.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with anyone starting a thread saying goodbye.
I don't know, nor pretend to know, what their motivations are and I was glad of a couple as I was able to swap e-mail addys with some people I wanted to stay in touch with.
