If you choose the right type of business and can keep it ticking over for the next while, then you should be in a good position for when this recession finally leaves us.

I did enquire about setting up a business but was advised to start out online and try it that way. But my ethos is excellent customer service with the personal touch. Who knows what the future holds. I might do it yet.

OP have you done a start your own business course or the likes?
Gotta a feel for what exactly is involved in running it?
Would trialling it online first work for you?

The online connections are extremely important today..especially using the social networking side of things...a great way to get the business out there..A start your own business course is worth thinking about alright...the local enterprise boards are running these..thumbs up

My advice is:

Have in depth experience the business you plan to start.
Be passionate about it.
Be prepared to work long hours and acceptance of some some set backs.
Do research.
Do trial marketing.
Have double the money you think you need.
Do not mortgage your house.
Weigh up all the pro's and cons.
Do not go in with a partner but hire conscientious people.
Don't get in too deep with the banks.
