I am currious...

I have noticed that many of those who post in the forums, hide their profile when they are not online.

Why do you do this?

This prevents people from viewing your profile so they can click to see what you have been posting in the forums, or send you an email or a flower, or simply reading your profile to see what you are all about.

Scammers will not be an acceptable answer as I have noted that most of the time, they select their victims from the who's online now status.

Please, tell us why.

I hide my profile whenever I sign off if I have pictures posted because otherwise I will have more scammers. I think they must work off the little pics that run at the top of the screen. Also, I have a pesky friend with multple profiles who likes to play games.

Also, I hide my profile if I know I won't be on for a long time since I don't want people to think I'm not answering their mail. If your profile is hidden, the mail will get kicked back to them.

Logging out does not stop people mailing you. And I don't want my 3 wives and 47 kids knowing I'm on a singles site. grin

On another site, members are able to hide their profiles permenantly, except if they contribute to the forums, their profiles are visible to other forumites.

I thought this a natty little idea as it cuts out random people cold calling (and inevitably being disappointed with the lack of response), but doesn't stop contact through the forums.

Reporting a multi-profiler isn't much help Chris. They just create more profiles anyway.

I like that idea jac. I think that forum posters should have access to each other.

Sometimes, I like to send a flower to another poster telling them I like what they posted or an ecard expressing sympathy if someone is going through difficulties, or even an email of gratitude and understanding.

You could be missing out on receiving a Blessing if your profile is hidden and we can not contact you.

Just something I think is worth consideration by those who hide.

I used to do it because my ex-gf was internet stalking me for a while. But I doubt this is anyone else's reason.

I never thought of reporting him. I do consider him a friend...just one with a quirky sense of humor.

Besides, like Jac said, he would just create 10 more. I really don't mind. Whenever I get someone new writing in, I'll play along for a couple of e-mails, then ask for them to send another pic so I know its not HIM...they always disappear after that.
