Do men like women being more independent? When is a woman too independent? Does an independent woman seem like she doesn't need you?

Dear Felixis, I would prefer a woman that likes to be with me not one that needs to . . .

Very good questions. An independent woman can seem overwhelming to some men. A woman might appear too independent if she's always going out with her friends all the time, or working long hours, leaving no time to get to know her. A woman who's on the go all the time wouldn't be attractive to me at all. I would wonder if she would ever have time for us as a couple. Yes, a woman should have her own interests, just like her partner should. They don't need to spend all their time together. A woman who is highly independent can easily give off the impression that she needs no one, which some men might find a turnoff. Indeed, plenty of women on CS have made it very clear that they don't need a man at all, yet CS ladies say they can't find anyone so they give up and just enjoy the features on here. There needs to be a balance between independence vs. being needed. I'm very much a giver, but an independent woman might not appreciate a giver personality.

I remember a romantic comedy, where the woman was about to leave on a bus. No words the man said made any difference until he said, "I need you, Gwen", then she fell into his arms.

laugh

I had to laugh huggerman - I also noticed that contradiction of women complainign that they can't find a man then in the same breath saying they don't need one

well I need one but I guess I would explain it by saying I want one & to the extent that I need the emotional fulfillment I do need a man but I do not need one in the sense that I am looking for a man to support me financially (tho helping each other would be nice)...anyway - and I also am past the point of being with someone just for the sake of it - yanno just to day I am with someone...no thanks. I want to really be in love

I think you're right with that kind of independence turning off some men because I think men want or need to feel needed. And I do need a man - and I am not always busy or anything like that - but I am pretty indie - maybe I am just hopelesslaugh

I've seen several references to "Indie women" lately, and I have a feeling that I don't what term means. When I first heard the term, I thought it was some reference to auto racing. Now, I'm not so sure. confused

meaning that while at home I eat when I please, don;t watch tv, I am very quiet an don;t have to deal with anyone else's scheudle or "stuff"

and I have somewhat unique eating habits and I come & go as I please to visit - work - run errands - shop etc in my free time and do not have to "account" for that

these are some things I do not want to change that make it hard for me to jump into the dating pool....dunno

Don't think I'd want to change anyone. Actually an independent woman with her own style would only compliment who I am by teaching me to enjoy other things in life and hopefully I could do the same for her.

A very good forum question handshake
