Albertaghost: And on the ground safe. Highest balloon flight, highest jump but didn't break the longest freefall record as Kittenger still holds that. Waiting to see if he broke the speed of sound.

What Felix has done it is impressive and fascinating.

Yet what Jo Kittinger did back in 1960 -besides many other achievements of him- is remarkable because of the info, equipment and tools available at that time -52 years ago-!.

tip hat

“On August 16, 1960, he made the final jump, from the Excelsior I999II, at 102,800 feet (31,300 m). Towing a small drogue parachute for initial stabilization, he fell for 4 minutes and 36 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 614 miles per hour (988 km/h) before opening his parachute at 18,000 feet (5,500 m)....”

What a jump is all I can say.

24 miles up. Air to thin to breath. Minus 75 degrees out. And hitting over 750 mph in 4.8 seconds. WoW........tip hat
