Killing is fun or so it seems No longer do soldiers use bayonets while paralleling tank machines Like eagles up high and way down below in whisper-quiet submarines Killing is certainly fun, or so it seems
Killing is fun or so it seems Children dying while parents holding heads of screams Handsome college grads navigating drones and maneuvering F16s Killing is now a simple video game, or so it seems!

Why on earth do you think that it is fun or seems to be?
Albertaghost: Why on earth do you think that it is fun or seems to be?
The author of the poem was saying the opposite, that war is not fun.
His point was that war by drone is a video game in which people really die. It becomes easier to kill when you are safe, dry, well rested and have a full stomach. It does not take any courage to press a button in a lethal video game.

No, he said it was fun. My question remains, why does he believe others or anybody finds this fun?

Ccincy: I think someone has missed the point and no the OP is not saying that killing is fun.
Then spell it out for me please. If he is trying to say that because it is easy to kill the enemy that it is more likely they will be killed then that is true. Just as that has been true with all weapons technology from the manufacture of the sharpened spear through the bow all the way to submarine warfare and beyond.
Where one gets the idea that it is better to be killed by your enemy is beyond me.

Sorry I'm not in the mood for having a debate with you.

Not debating you. You said somebody missed the point, I took it to mean me and then stated that since his point was not what he said, I stated what I thought his errant point was and said why he was wrong. If you don't have the time to say what you believe is the true meaning then why say others don't?

Agreed. It reads as a poem that has a dark cast as people have become disconnected from the actual experience and shock of Killing. I did not write it but It does read that way to me, I am lead to believe that the poet is exposing the easibility of war and killing. In the multitude of games and tv shows "Killing" has become a pastime. If not for real than at least in practice.

Carl96190: That was not what I said. Your yarmulke is on too tight. I did not make any moral judgement on what the author wrote. I merely explain the irony upon which he was commenting. You appear to be incapable of understanding that. I am, though, disturbed by the cybergeeks who fight wars with a Nintendo joystick. I fear that they lack an appreciation of the consequences of their actions. Anyone who treats killing as a game, or as fun, even when it is the enemy who is dying, is seriously sick. I am old fashioned enough to believe that wars should be fought between armies on open field. When you have to look a man in the eye as you kill him, that takes some honour and courage. To fiddle with a joystick and laught about it, that is cowardly and without honour.
Whomever said they were laughing about it Carl? Oh, the OP did, the guy who siad it was 'fun.'
As for seeing your enemy, go ahead, fight with a spear and a stick against those who use rifles and grenades. As Patton said,
“The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other guy die for his.”
