To the people of cs who have been married before! If u had the time over again would you do the same thing? Would you advise( after been in the position yourself) for people to get married? To me marriage is a piece of paper and expense and let's be honest it's a day for women

My advice to any woman is get married, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. You can change your mind at any time. My advice to men is don't ever get married for any reason no matter what. You have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Well sunshine let me tell ya a story, i was married to a violent man but eventually i got rid of him, even got a divorce, never asked for a settlement and never asked for child maintenance either, i got my freedom and that was worth anything to me, so many people said i was mad for not looking for a settlement and maintenance but i dont like to be beholden to anyone, so you see not all women are money grabbers wave

Marriage isn't worth the effort these days. I know non married couples who have stayed together longer than a lot of married people I know. As long as any children are taken care of emotionally and financially, then it hardly matters anymore whether their parents are legally married or not. Less hassle when people are breaking up if they're not, really. JMO

You chose not to have the secret State Family Courts take money from your ex by proxy. As a woman you had that choice. You could also get a divorce, have personal freedom and live happy ever after without him having any claim on you.

Most husbands don't get off as easily as yours did. Hence all the advise you were getting. A friend of mine has a house with bedsits and four out of the five are divorced men who once lived quite comfortably in the homes they built, furnished and paid for but now can barely survive in a single room while the bulk of their earnings to to their ex-wives. I wouldn't think any of those guys would advise marriage for men.

I also know of a case where a man earning about €600/week was deserted by a wife earning €2000/week and she sued him for €300 a week and got it! She also had him sell sizeable assets and give her almost half the money even though the marriage only lasted a couple of years, there were no children and she never stopped working at any stage. So now she earns €2300/week and he earns €300/week. It makes you wonder what planet the judges are living on.

facetowardsfront: Couldn't agree more but unfortunately the secret family courts can make any order they like. The woman in that case is connected by numerous tentacles to all sorts of state agencies right back to her grandfather and took one of the top legal faces in the country into the court on her behalf. The guy, thinking as you do, turned up pretty much legally unarmed.

Well I would challenge it to the end and he is very foolish if he doesnt...And unfortunately there are some (not all) womens groups out there who would back the likes of her all the while giving women a bad name...Some are way too millitant for me, and their views change depending on the situation. I have my own views and beliefs and do believe in equality but dont need a clatter of placard bearing women behind me to make my point...Unfortunately in this case corruption wins and his livelihood is the fall guy for a money grabber who wants a lush lifestyle regardless of who she stamps on to get it...I imagine he wont make the same mistake twice...Tho by the sound of it he wouldnt hv anything to be taken to the cleaners for....

If the man buys the engagement ring and the relationship fails does he get the ring back, so he can sell it and get hes money back.
