So of everyone on here, what are your thoughts on motorcycles? Is that something you are in to, or something you avoid? Do you have any good stories, or (hopefully not) any bad stories?

Share what you got!

For me, I have two ideal things I would like to do. I am in Raleigh/Cary NC, which is 2 hrs from the coast, 3-4 hrs to the mountains. I'd like to have a couple of vacations here, one to drive out to the coast for a while. There is something about the beach and cool/cold weather. I'd like a dark cozy hotel on an island of the outer banks (Maybe in Duck, NC?) And the end result is to cruise the entire string of islands up to Newport News, VA.

The other thought is to head back out to the mountains for a road trip. For that I might prefer to put the bike on the trailer and haul it out there, then just enjoy riding along the BRP when the leaves are changing or growing. There were hundreds of bikes on the BRP on Labor Day, and I would like to be part of that sometime..

(yes, I am aware there are groups specific for that, so no need for suggestions!)

On ya! Enjoy the air.

And for those that don't ride, you don't know so don't advise. Just stay quiet and wish.

Oh yeah! Open the throttle on the open highway, feel the lift from gravity as the wind parts its course to allow you for the moment to fly...nothing like it!!grin

Cairns has some great riding countryside around it. Much of Oz is flat but Cairns is where the Great Devide Mountain range meets the Sea. Great winding mountain roads and views ... tropical climate so that you don't freeze.

Oh and the Northern Territory is about to change it's "open road" rule. On the relatively straight highways of the Northern Territory there was no speed limit. That meant that you could go as fast as you liked ... of course if you were doing 230km/hour in a 1977 Ford Cortina with 220km/hour rated tires you would be given a dangerous driving ticket. But with machines that were fitted with the right tires and designed to do the speeds you could "let it all hang out". Last month the Northern Territory Chief Minister informed us that the maximum speed allowed would be 130km/hour. This doesn't worry me much as a road train (http://www.murdoch.edu.au/ciee/pages/northwest/road%20train.JPG) or (http://www.google.com.au/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=t&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-25,GGLG:en&q=road+train+pictures)
coming from the other way just about takes my head off with the air pressure from it's pantech trailer sides at 130km/hour.

Probably useless information ... but at least it's not asking "what would you do to the person above you with an unlimited supply of whipped cream?"

I MISS IT LIKE FRICKIN CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh man, the feeling of the wind blowing all this hair off the back of my neck in the middle of summer, as you blast down the highway. Used to drive the guys crazy when I spread my arms so I could feel like I was flying LOL And the windies! Zoom, swoosh, zoom, swoosh, better than any ride at the fair.
Pinched nerve in my neck now. Can only risk it when I finally find a rider who is REAL smooth with shifting and braking crying Stupid brain buckets, soooo heavy on the neck.

Suzuki Bandit 1200 S.

Great road trips to Maine, Colorado. Next: Idaho and the West Coast....

Greatest single memory: SW Kansas, flat 2-laner at dawn, visibility infinite, 150 mph on the needle, the bike smooth as silk.

Whooooooooosh!

LOL Sorry, but have only ever been on a Harley, and think it would be kinda embarrassing to be caught on a rice cruncher. The boys throw those on bon fires at the parties.
