Ccincy: There hasn't been an awful lot of positive things going on here in the states for some time. Maybe if our government hadn't felt the great need to police other parts of the world like they're still doing maybe the rest of the world wouldn't have such bad opinions about us huh.Our political figures made us the laughing stock of the world.

Good point Cincy. I'm trying to think of the last good/fun thing that happened in the U.S. that the majority were happy with.

Still thinking...

I totally agree with you that we should stay home and take of our own business. Only thing I agree with is the campaign in Afghanistan after Sept. 11th.

Other then that, what have we accomplished by trying to convince other countries to live like we do??? They didn't want us in their country. Lives were lost and money was spent on wars that could have been used for a true bailout in America.

The thing is, no matter what we say here on CS whether it be about gun control, Obama, or politicans in general, it doesn't matter at all.

We put the politicans in government. What we need to do now is add an Amendment to the Constitution....there's that word again "Amendment" or a Codicil to the Constitution.....for term limits. These senators get in there and make it a career. They get the best medical plans, they don't have to abide by insider trading laws and they give themselves a raise every year. Not a bad job. All you have to do is convince the citizens that you are going to do something good.

Still thinking...looking for something good that has happened here in the last 40 years.

The statement highlighted is simply referring to people who commit this error. As for our country and its mistakes, I am one of the first people to lay out criticism on our country but my statement was NOT about the policies of our country; it was about the unfair judgment of the individuals as a result of policies, media and other negative examples. I am perfectly fine with people criticizing the US but I do not like when people say things like, “Americans are spoiled little children” or Americans are this or that. My point is, not all Americans are reflections of the unfortunate examples that people notice first. There are many good people and I would think people would understand that stereotypes are never always accurate.

To each their own... BTW, your country isn't immune from shootings either. Kauhajoki school shooting ring a bell? BTW, there are more people here dodging taxes, cars, work and that's just the Government, then there is bullets being fired.

That's okay Tom, we have enough people here in the U.S. But there are those that do everything they can to get a green card; and there are those that sneak under and over the borders from Mexico to the U.S.; and there are those that get in overcrowded boats to come to America because all of them think this is the land to become rich with education, homes and cars. Even though they know about shootings, they still want to come to America.

These people try to come to America because they are escaping conditions that most of us in wealthier countries could not even imagine...although I have seen much in my travels that saddened me greatly.

I am confused. You state above 'this is the land to become rich with education, homes and cars.' and yet get upset when people say you are privileged? Of course we are privileged! All the developed world is. We have running water, access to education, freedom of speech, a right to vote for our governments and are not oppressed like so many others.

10% of the world's population own 90% of its wealth. The U.S.A. and other developed countries ARE the privileged ones!

Ccincy, you do not know me and your "truth" is only an opinion. I would think at your advanced age that you would know the difference between opinion and truth. I am exceptionally wise and intelligent and I will always admit my flaws but this is not one of them.. I am NOT spoiled. I have had a VERY difficult life and I appreciate what I have and I understand that others experience heightened suffering and pain in other parts of the world. We do have it pretty well in many ways but one should ALWAYS attempt to improve. Improving is the very reason why we have it the way we do. Don’t assume I am spoiled or that you know what I think, feel, desire or resent. I am not a ignorant to the positives and/or negatives of my situation, our country or other countries. Declaring that I am spoiled without any knowledge of my situation or my thought process is an egocentric and unintelligent way of being.

mcajr79 I think you've misunderstood my comment.

I wasn't referring to you personally when I posted about people not wishing to hear the truth about themselves.

WE do have alot more in material things then most countries. Some don't even have decent water to drink.

Whether you choose to admit it or not WE Americans are spoiled.

If you took it that way I'm sorry.

Can we just start over.

Ccincy, the point of this post was to eliminate the generalization. Instead of saying, "we americans are spoiled" you could say, "Most americans are spoiled." I would be accepting of that.
