I think kissing in public is one's own business, done tastefully (pardon the pun)...who's to say if older people should or shouldn't? No one should tell anyone how or where to kiss.

montemonte: Even when I was still young I wasn't fond of smooching in public but a quick kiss was okay. When I see people with their tongues down each others throat I sarcastically tell them to get a room.
Part of my reasoning is I don't think it's good for very young people under 16 years of age to see two people all over each others body in public especially if its men and women who should be showing an example of public etiquette.
Heck, I don't even like to hold hands in public now. If I had a significant other I would like a hug and a kiss but anything else is restricted for privacy.

i'm not talking about 'get a room' stuff...
i'm talking about sweet kisses, hand holding, arm around me sometimes, a togetherness...
i love when i see an older couple hand in hand walking along the trails and beaches here.
and i don't think it sets a 'bad' example to anyone, to show affection or togetherness.
as for 'hotter' displays of affection, like you, i think that's best kept private...

I live in a liberal metropolitan area of California, and I would think it was strange if people were offended by PDA. Just to be clear, I do not use the expression "PDA" to define affection equivalent to making out, as in hands roaming under garments while playing tonsil hockey.
It's also about culture. I am of German/French/Welsh descent but was raised primarily by my mother and my Mexican American step-father. Everybody hugged and kissed all the time!
I am a product of my environment. I'm a touchy-feely type, so if someone is embarrassed by holding hands, kissing & hugging in public, he is just not my type. Period.

for women it often increases with age beginning in her 40s. I have often thought that is one reason why that is such a common age for long term couples divorcing - in their 40s

That's true, your interest in intimacy doesn't change but your joints and flexibility do. Once women have gone through menopause they don't have the libido they used to have but the interest is still there. There's nothing wrong with me. I just can't put my leg around my neck anymore

This is not true. It may be the case for some women, but it is a myth that all women have a decrease in libido after menopause. It is very much a myth.
