I was in Cardiff today. Not only could I hear you lot cheering from the city centre, I could hear you when I was opening my front door in Pontyclun. laugh

Well done, Ireland. It sounded like a good game.

No its not and to keep on saying it is wont make it so.

I love watching the rugby, we never watched football in my house growing up, always rugby supporters.

And starting a thread claiming thats it the best IRISH national anthem is incorrect and bound to lead to some disagreements.

Ah lads...it's a rugby song in fairness, it's never played anywhere else but a rugby game...if there was a Northern Ireland rugby team then there'd be no Irelands Call or whatever it's called...it only means something to rugby fans (and i understand that) nobody else would call it a National Anthem.

Well done to Ireland today, didn't see it myself but heard they were brilliant ireland

mcattack: Why don't the GAA play it then?? plenty of Protestants play GAA and it's a 32 county sport...when Irelands Call is played in any sport but rugby then you'll have an argument but the fact of the matter is that it's not and never will be!!

show me protestants from Northern Ireland that play gaelic games keenie? They are a tiny tiny minority if they even exist so there would be no need to drop Amhrán na bhFiann...I'm not talking about protestants from the free state who play GAA..there are plenty of them but they consider themselves to be Irish unlike their counterparts in the North who consider themselves to be Britishireland
Feb 2, 2013 11:34 AM CST Good Luck to Ireland....
mcattack: Ever heard of Sam Maguire??

yeah whats your point keenie?
Feb 2, 2013 12:09 PM CST Good Luck to Ireland....
mcattack: I like the way you shorten it as if it's a pet name you have for me...thanks....ehhhh...Hardie??

You said show me Protestants that play GAA...Sam Maguire is probably the most famous one, seeing the biggest trophy in the sport is named after him..also have a look at this forum, there's plenty of Prods playing the sport so there goes your 32 county sport argument...and yeah it's all soccers fault that there's a divide in communities

Have you not read anything I've written at all Keenie?
Sam maguire was a Protestant from West Cork..He was an Irishman no disputing that..its a fact...A loyalist from Ulster will most certainly be a protestant but he certainly doesn't consider himself to be Irish unlike Sam maguire..so Amhrán na bhFiann does not represent the likes of Rory Best or Stephen Ferris..do you get it now?doh
Never said it was soccers fault...I just said soccer is divided on this Island...you have the IFA in the North who are almost exclusively a Loyalist team..very few catholic/nationalists in the north would feel part of that set up..thats why they declare for the republic..remember Neil Lennon had death threats because he played for the NI team..its slowly becoming more inclusive butireland

Roadway: Don't know where your coming from as regards rugby being played & supported by posh people, for eg rob Kearney comes from a farming background, plus the way those men in green from the island of Ireland (32 counties) put there bodies on the line and into tackles for Irelands cause , they are just not falling over & rooling around & mouthing & whinging after a small tackle like your footballing friends , they get on with the job, they are not afraid to deliver to Ireland's call, plus

Rugby is mainly played in private schools around the country. Thats a fact. Yes in munster its an all round sport but in the rest of the country its a sport of the "posh". If you can't deal with that I am sorry. And there are plenty of rich farmers who send their sons to "posh" schools.

And Ireland call is just a Rugby song. Is it played at any other sport or occasion? Its a horrible song with tacky lyrics written in a hurry. Its an embarrassing song. Amhran na bhfiann had worked perfectly up until then so why change it?roll eyes

Just a few colleges in Dublin consider themselves as posh as u call them, breaking news more shame & scandal being acosiated to football. Imagine having Frausters like then posh & respected schools. Amhran Na bhfiann as I said is associated with fianna fail, they are gone now & so should it. Rugby is here a long time and will continue to be.
Bring on next Sunday & the Aviva.
