Being a Missouri girl, I grew up a few miles from the Truman home. It is a cute Victorian home near the old town Independence. When I was a teen, I volunteered at a hospital in Kansas City as a candy striper. My favorite thing to do was deliver the flowers to all of the patients. I wasn't allowed to take her flowers in to her, which was disappointing. I wanted so much to meet Bess Truman.
