I've been on here for three weeks now and have really come to enjoy the advice you guys give other people. I need some advice. I was married for nine years. My ex's brother was also married. During that time, my sister-in-law and I became best friends. We have done everything together for years. Now that I'm getting a divorce my ex is furious that I won't give up my friendship. He says that I should have nothing more to do with her because that is his family not mine, and that out of respect for him (not that he ever respected me) I should end the friendship. I say no because our friendship has nothing to do with him. Who is right?

I understand both sides of that fence. My sister in law still has a friendship with my ex. However...they were friends before they were family. It's o.k. though. I still go fishing at my exes Moms house...and I still very much love the lady. So, If ya'll are friends...remain friends....he's your ex....doesn't make her an ex friend.

I feel that as long as you and her want the friendship, to go on it is both of your choices Not his! Go for it afterall friends are there long after the man is gone! professor

Thanks you for your replies. Highplains and Chopper thanks for responding. Its nice to get a man's perspective on things. He says if I don't end this friendship he will make my life hell, but I think it's another control tactic. He's still trying to run my life. I'm not going to let him do it.

My sister is still friends with my 1st ex. We have been divorced for 19 years. Never bothered me at all. You have the right to choose your own friends.

You shouldn't have to give up the friendship. I had a friend once who said they wouldn't be friends with me if I had this other friend because they didn't like my other friend. They told me that they would stay my friend if I gave the other friendship up. That ever happen to you?

ask you sister in law how she feels. He really has no say in the matter.

Friends are the gems we gather in live and real friends are forever.
