For me personally I would never interfere with anyone's business whether they are signing on the dole and working cash in hand.Life is about making choices you choose your own path in life whether it is legitimate or not, of course tax payers who are struggling to make ends meat are bitter. Deep down I would have no respect for anyone who would squeal on someone getting an odd job here and there to put food on the table for their children.Do informers for the social welfare get little Brownie points or backhanders

Its a case of where do you draw the line?
Is it the guy who gets the odd day here or there which helps make things just a little bit easier for his family?
Or the single guy driving the fancy high end car, drawing the dole and working the best part of a week for €500 cash in hand but who nobody reports cos he has a gambling problem and his partner(no children) would suffer by having to provide for them both from her payment?

Surely if cash in hand work wasnt possible then a fair few proper jobs would have to appear? The work still would have to be done?

Using the word, 'squeal' is very derogatory I feel.

It pisses me off when I see it but I would not report anyone. I don't feel it's my place. They have inspectors who are paid to do that. I don't do their job for them as they don't do my job for me.

But I think people that do it are the lowest of the low.

the lowest of the low???
and these inspectors.....how do they find out information if they havent been told it? How do they know where to look?

That is one of the things wrong with this country...we give out but we do nothing. And I do count myself in that incase anyone thinks I am coming across all high and mighty.

I didn't mean people who report are the lowest of the low. I meant people who claim welfare and work.laugh

I think people have to decide themselves if they report people or not. Personally I don't see how it would do anything to help my life or anyone elses so I wouldn't bother.

But I wouldn't give anyone who did stick either. Each to their own.

The recession has turned us into anxious and bitter, but realistically we turn on the vulnerable in society .The country has got to unite march the streets of Dublin enough is enough because the layman is turning on each other while the fat cats live in luxury guilt free KARMA.Derogatory na im speaking on behalf of long term unemployed in my area through the years never worked but like to tell tales.

say for example 1000 people are working cash in hand while getting a full SW payment.....
if these 1000 werent able to get that work then surely the work would still have to be done meaning a few hundred actual proper jobs would be created. Those 1000 would still be on the dole or most of them actually working legitimately and if the latter was the case then the number receiving SW payments would drop??

Im not trying to advertise or advocate the black market , I understand the people you are actually on about claiming all sorts of benefits with no intention to seek employment basically screwing the system whether there is a recession or not.I would not like to see a child go hungry and if a man can get an odd day of work to provide food for his family and he is genuinely out of work claiming unemployment assistance try not to be too harsh on these people

At the end of the day, the fatcats are going to make their money whether there is welfare fraud or not! The real people who suffer because of welfare fraud are the poorest in society who need it the most. Corruption whether the small man who does it or the big man is damaging mostly to the poorest. Always has been, always will be.
