Conrad73: Interesting!
There is considerably less Mercury in the Environment these days, yet it doesn't seem to have had any influence on the number of Autism Cases!

No idea. I've heard that the most dangerous contaminant of mercury are these little button cells, or coin cells.

More and more are fabricated without Mercury!
You might have a problem these days to find a new one with Mercury in it.

I don't get it ... everytime the price of oil goes up ... American's scream for Energy Independence from foreign oil, (but no one is willing to give up their gas guzzling SUV's) and here we go ... a chance for everyone to help in reaching that independence in the form of the lowly light bulb ... essentially unchanged since the time of Edison ...

the old outgoing incandescent bulbs, where most of the energy is wasted in the form of heat,

then comes the compact fluorescent bulb, energy efficient for sure but with a yucky glow and contains hg which creates another environmental problem,

now the LED, energy efficient and a nice warm glow, only drawback is the initial price even though it last for years.

Welcome to the 21st century! uh oh

In response to: The President signed it, is official no more regular bulbs in America. Starting next year all regular bulbs will be on stock till they gone for good. From now on, LED, Hallogen bulbs or any other kind except incandecent. No more, said The President

It's just an exercise in authoritarianism.

You citizens can't be trusted to know what kind of lightbulbs you want or need. The government will decide for you.

Pretty soon you'll be liberated from all choice about anything.

Its been here for awhile, incandescents are out LED and others in.....due to it being energy saving, its true they cost much less to run the new ones, however ones that dim are like 22$ the long life ones ar $7 compared to old ones for $1. They say they last 7 years the new ones and they dont get as hot in recessed lights either. But they are big bulky and not nice looking.
